I stopped going to my Subway across the street from my job because I got fed up with them always screwing up my order, literally 50% of the time.  I figured after months of not going I'd give them a try again this week.  Well, 50% is still accurate.......

I walk up to the counter today and say "I want a foot long Roast Beef"  OK, VERY articulate by the way do I speak these words.  This short little hispanic kid takes my order.  Mind you, my wife is hispanic so don't go saying I'm this or that.

Anyway, he asks me what kind of bread and all that.  Not even 15 seconds later, he goes "what kind" meaning what kind of sandwich do I want, and I said "Roast Beef"  He says "huh" and I said "Roast Beef".  He says "OK" and starts putting all this turkey on it.  I kid you not.

I just have this kinda blank stare on my face.  He says "what else" and I said "I didn't say turkey, I said Roast Beef" and I swear he stared at me for 10 seconds like he had no idea what I just said.  I had to actually point it out to him and tell him what I meant.  I said "No, I want Roast Beef, not Turkey"  Mind you, I was being nice, wasn't raising my voice, etc.  So, he goes and puts it on top of the turkey.  OK, no big deal.  He said " what else" and I said "Pepper Jack Cheese and Mustard"  He puts swiss cheese on it and 10 seconds later says "Ketchup right?" so I said, "no, Mustard"  Again, a blank stare.  I had to point that out to him too.  After that point I just gave up and told him "nothing else"

So, this is why I stopped going to this Subway.  I shouldn't have to know how to speak spanish to order my damn meal.  I should not have to point out what I want to someone because they don't understand what I'm saying.  This is FREAKIN' America, and I'm tired of this crap with this Subway.  I mean if you don't even know the differences in your own meat why the hell are you working there?  This isn't about him not being nice because he was, and so was I, but inside I was very aggrivated.

How can someone hire someone else that can't understand English the heart of Chicago in a business district? I'd just like to know that.  This is starting to happen more and more around here, at McDonalds, Burger King, etc. and I have seen alot of pissed off people because of it.  If it was a Mexican restuarant in a Mexican neighborhood, I would completely understand, because I have spent half my adult life in those places and have no problem with my friends ordering for me.  But C'mon now, this is a different situation.

I have a suggestion: STOP HIRING YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND HIRE PEOPLE THAT CAN ACTUALLY DO THE JOB THEY ARE PAID FOR!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you

P.S.  I won't even get into how my wife's family critisizes me for not talking to them more when we visit them even though most of them are speaking Spanish and I have no idea what they are saying.   Oh yeah, I fixed that problem though by telling them I don't understand wo how am I supposed to talk to you.  Most of them speak perfect English by the way, but love to come to my home and all speak around me a language they know I don't understand.  Thanks for listening

DOH!

Am I really THAT abserd and wrong to expect someone to be able to understand what I'm saying when I order something? I don't think that's asking too much

Well, since SOME people are ignoring me every time I ask about it that so kindly volunteered to read it for me (BOB ) I'm going to send it off to a certain other member that was nice enough to give me some pointers (That's my girl!).  I came to a point where I wasn't sure where it was going to go, so I stopped for a bit and am working on an outline for at least the first half of the book.  I have the outline for the next few chapters, but this morning as I was getting ready for work, it just kinda hit me, the hook for the story.  I've been thinking for almost a month "there has to be a hook or a main point where the story starts getting dramatic or on a larger scale" and it came to me out of nowhere.  Soooooo, I'm going to finish my outline for the first half this weekend sometime and continue writing.  Once the entire story is done, I'm going to go back and add more imagery and so forth that you guys have suggested, but not too much.  I don't want to bore my readers.  I want to entertain them.  Adding too much non-essential or important info about what kind of table is in the bedroom or what brand socks they characters wear is going to put people to sleep.  I think I finally figured out a really good route to take it but I need to develop it a little more before I start writing the next few chapters.

You asked............   Thanks though.  As soon as the next part is complete, you'll definitely get it.  You and Nick pretty much had the exact same comments/suggestions so I'm listening to what you have to say and building from that.

That would have done no good you see the manager is his brother Padro and they were both hired by their cousin Paco and all three do not speak the unofficial language of this land...

YES we have Ketchup at Subway, why you all up there do not?

Canada is weird, I ordered a bologna sandwich and there was butter on it...nearly yacked on sight not because it tasted bad but was not exspecting it...And another thing Blue cheese dressing is for chicken wings NOT RANCH!

Oh boy I'd better get off me soap box before I offend someone or at least piss someone off...

Bologna and Butter?

The manager was a girl that looked just like him so yeah that probably was the situation.  I knew it would not have done any good.

Sounds like the McDonald's near work in Dallas... I always have to check my order before I leave because 7 out of 10 will be wrong... Don't blame you for wanting them to speak english.. they are in America now... English is the official language...
IMO.
