Greenblade -> RE: what responce do you get in your hummer (6/14/2006 8:33:04 AM)

well... since you asked, and i'm hoping that Shortie was wrong in his post above... i'm a young guy - young enough to probably look like a rich kid who's dad bought him the truck when driving around - and i like to hang out with my brother, who's younger and younger looking, and has a pony tail. I add that, because reaction depends on driver to some extent, i'm sure. A gentle old man in a Bentley would probably get a different reaction than a rapper, etc. It is completely, and amazingly, all over the place. The H2 (there are very few here, and hardly more than H1s on the local roads, escalades to H2s are probably 10 or 20 to 1, so the H2 is rare). Its so interesting to just soak up the reactions, that my brother and i have made a habit of just cruising around on a friday or saturday night for an hour just to watch people stare, or try to catch what they say. Friday & sat evenings are the best time - because so many people are out and about, and thinking about all things social. Anyway, we've had people drive fast or turn around just to drive by and tell us to fck ourselves, sometimes worse, we've been flipped off, we've had people run out of a bar to give a thumbs down, and the usual dirty looks, once a guy came running out of a backyard party in a very crappy neighborhood to scream an inspired streak of curses some saturday night. And sometimes you can tell people are really put off by it - the prius gang and all of those. And kids run out to the street to say hi just waving and stuff, parents at school have asked if i'd give their kdis a ride, or if they could drive it, we've been honked at, yelled at, or asked to cruise around by carloads of girls on several occasions, people have asked if they could sit in it while we were bogged in front of a passing train, I get thumbs up, on one of our weekend drives we got flashed by some college girl hanging out the window of a pontiac (they were freakin nice, too!), we've been invited in to bars while sitting in front of them at a red light, and all of that. People you know, or give a ride to if they're drunk, or who you meet and they check out the big truck, universally like it. And whats not to like? People really seem to relax and just enjoy the truck when they're in it, everybody always wants you to drive. People from m'lady to various others have expressed distaste for it before i got it, or before they got a chance to be in it, but they've all warmed up to it in about 20 seconds. Its big, i think people feel snug and cozy and safe when they're in it, and well its just a nice place to be. 100% approval rating from passengers. And people stare. and mines not even yellow and about 189,081.5 people have asked what the mileage is. no vandalism or anything like that to report. AT this point in time i can't imagine any vehicle i'd enjoy more. But do be sure - the attention is not for everybody. if you want a nice ride & to just blend in, buy a Land Rover if you can stomach the warranty trouble possibilities. Or a caddilac DTS, which i have a bit of a crush on. Or a porsche or a vette or something. All of those blend in better than the H2. If you have thin skin, don't buy an H2. If you really want quite an experience, and an incredibly enjoyable vehicle, buy an H2 and drive it into the ground. It may be that in other areas, or with ohter drivers, reactions are different. But i'd pay the price of ownership just for the experience of all those reactions, which have been completely fascinating. Honestly, i had no idea what i was getting in to, i just bought the thing because... well, i liked it.
