I own a H3 and I seem to get favorable results most of the time. I believe it is the H2 owners that occasionally get the negative reviews from passer-bys. I've never heard of one getting very nasty comments or enough neagativity that they have stopped driving it, though. Drive it! Enjoy it! You are paying for it. Who cares what others think.

Hey Kid..What kinda HUMMER do you got?

Tell us a little about your ride..Color, options, tires, stuff like that...What have you done to it, to make it stand out in a crowd, that's got you so paranoid?

well... since you asked, and i'm hoping that Shortie was wrong in his post above...

i'm a young guy - young enough to probably look like a rich kid who's dad bought him the truck when driving around - and i like to hang out with my brother, who's younger and younger looking, and has a pony tail. I add that, because reaction depends on driver to some extent, i'm sure. A gentle old man in a Bentley would probably get a different reaction than a rapper, etc.

It is completely, and amazingly, all over the place. The H2 (there are very few here, and hardly more than H1s on the local roads, escalades to H2s are probably 10 or 20 to 1, so the H2 is rare). Its so interesting to just soak up the reactions, that my brother and i have made a habit of just cruising around on a friday or saturday night for an hour just to watch people stare, or try to catch what they say. Friday & sat evenings are the best time - because so many people are out and about, and thinking about all things social.

Anyway, we've had people drive fast or turn around just to drive by and tell us to fck ourselves, sometimes worse, we've been flipped off, we've had people run out of a bar to give a thumbs down, and the usual dirty looks, once a guy came running out of a backyard party in a very crappy neighborhood to scream an inspired streak of curses some saturday night. And sometimes you can tell people are really put off by it - the prius gang and all of those.

And kids run out to the street to say hi just waving and stuff, parents at school have asked if i'd give their kdis a ride, or if they could drive it, we've been honked at, yelled at, or asked to cruise around by carloads of girls on several occasions, people have asked if they could sit in it while we were bogged in front of a passing train, I get thumbs up, on one of our weekend drives we got flashed by some college girl hanging out the window of a pontiac (they were freakin nice, too!), we've been invited in to bars while sitting in front of them at a red light, and all of that.

People you know, or give a ride to if they're drunk, or who you meet and they check out the big truck, universally like it. And whats not to like? People really seem to relax and just enjoy the truck when they're in it, everybody always wants you to drive. People from m'lady to various others have expressed distaste for it before i got it, or before they got a chance to be in it, but they've all warmed up to it in about 20 seconds. Its big, i think people feel snug and cozy and safe when they're in it, and well its just a nice place to be. 100% approval rating from passengers.

And people stare. and mines not even yellow

and about 189,081.5 people have asked what the mileage is.

no vandalism or anything like that to report.

AT this point in time i can't imagine any vehicle i'd enjoy more. But do be sure - the attention is not for everybody. if you want a nice ride & to just blend in, buy a Land Rover if you can stomach the warranty trouble possibilities. Or a caddilac DTS, which i have a bit of a crush on. Or a porsche or a vette or something. All of those blend in better than the H2.

If you have thin skin, don't buy an H2. If you really want quite an experience, and an incredibly enjoyable vehicle, buy an H2 and drive it into the ground.

It may be that in other areas, or with ohter drivers, reactions are different. But i'd pay the price of ownership just for the experience of all those reactions, which have been completely fascinating. Honestly, i had no idea what i was getting in to, i just bought the thing because... well, i liked it.

It might be interesting to compare the hummer experience to a (while somewhat younger) sports car experience. I had a gorgeous dolled up mint 300zx back when those were the sweetest things on wheels...

and young guys, high school and college, universally loved it and wanted to talk about. what performance parts, ever had it timed, blah blah. family-aged people and up didn't even realize it was there, save the occasional look of longing from a guy with a minivan. I get asked about the H2 more in a week than i did the 300 in all the years i had it, or at least every month.

and girls just rolled their eyes, my girlfriend teased me about having a premature midlife crisis (i was mid 20s). not that they disliked it, but i was pretty bummed that the ladies didn't warm up to the fast lil car more (i WAS into chasing the girls back then). Despite what i would have thought, girls seem to like the big ugly truck far more than the beautiful little fast car. So basically, when i had the 300, i was young and hoping chicks dug it. and they really didn't. and now i have an H2 and minimal interest in spurious breasted attention, and the hummer does draw that. Which furthers my theory that my timing in life is generally for crap.

I know i bore you guys to pieces pondering the hummer phenomenon, but it is absolutely fascinating how some random truck can have the effect on people, and the internet, that it has. Sometimes i wonder if i'm too boring of a guy to really do it justice.

mine's not yellow, it's urban camo. i'm sticking to my presumption though, until we get more details. i can't imagine buying a vehicle and being afraid to drive it.

I'm total agreement with the guy with the cool "urban camo" H2. But.... if you are true blue and afraid to drive your Hummer because of the insecurities of others that don't have enough in there lives and need to worry about what you are doing, then you are the one that is missing out. Greenblade is right. You have a vehicle that is a complete adventure everytime you take it out of the driveway. It is fun to drive. The attention it get's is mindboggling. It's a solid ride all around.

Everyday it sits in the driveway is another day of life you have missed out on. Don't waste them you don't know how many you get! Go have fun.

exactly, life is too worth living to bother with concerns. if it gets keeyed someday, i'll have it painted & press every charge known to man against the perp if they find him. what else can you do?

on a related note, jeep forums seem completely obsessed with calling the H2 a "$50,000 vehicle". Considering that

A) basep rice is 54
B) its the most accessorized GM vehicle at several thousand per truck
C) the local dealer has never had one w/o the lux package, and i'd guess alot of H2s have alot of options
D) the aftermarket $$ on the H2 has to approach the highest of any vehicle on avg

i'd guess the avg price is 60-65.

and then i have to hypothesize that the reason its called a "$50,000" vehicle is because the poster wants to lessen the cost/money aspect of the H2. which furthers my basic theory that the jeep0-vs-hummer thing is more about $$$ than anything.

that noted, i joined a jeep forum a while back for just a few posts and they were very nice. some comments but mostly they were uber-cool.

Still, the truly preposterous behavior of jeepers towards the H2 is kind of sad in a self-destructive way.
