just a crazy question, Mr. Shorts: do you/have you/would you be interested in putting those skills towards a leather kit for the dash peices? Remember that piano black dash that hummbob posted a link to? a leather kit to cover the dash is what i'm thinking. like that only remove wood add leather.

ORIGINAL: shortbus i've thought about it, but i made a leather dash for a Karmann Ghia I rebuilt, and it doesn't stand up to sun very well. i'm not sure what kind of protective coating comes on upholstery leather, but i've never found anything that will protect tooling leather the same way. it would also need to be glued to the existing dash pieces, or spares if you had them. with respect to protecting the pieces, if you left the very front of the dash plastic, as it is, the vertical windshield and generally horrendous aerodynamics of the H2 should work in ones favor, as the dash doesn't see much sun. just in the waning hours of the day if parked towards the light, but those aren't peak UV hours anyway. outside of that, leather protection is a pretty big market, my biz frequently involves pepole in the coatings industry and i'm sure somebody somewhere knows what to do about that, and i could ask around. a suitable product may be found via google as well, i'll check later. but its 1000% up to you. if you want a guinea pig, i humbly volunteer. i'll ask the dealer about getting some spares.
