I've had Allstate for almost 9 years, including my home and auto insurance. In an effort to rid myself of unwanted bills and debt, I'm getting quotes from difference places. So far GMAC is $100 more then what I'm paying now (for 6 months) and AAA is $60 less if I switch my home owner's insurance to them. Geico pretty much is to the penny for what I'm paying now. I had Geico for my motorcycle insurance and their customer service is excellent. Anyway, here are a few more places I was thinking about looking into:
Nationwide
Esurance
Farmer's Insurance
I'm a little upset with Allstate because once I moved into a less densely populated area, my insurance went up by almost $100, plus they talk about how they lower your rates every year or term you have no convictions on your record, and they actually keep raising every six months. Being a new home owner I'm starting to have a new appreciation for money and want the best bang for my buck, but want a reputable company. So far AAA is looking good and they are rated with the best rating the industry offers.
If anybody has any other suggestions besides the ones I listed, minus State Farm, let me know. It's not bad right now, but since I have never had a claim in my life, and live basically in the farmland, I should not be paying $100 more then I was 6 months ago living in a densely populated area. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Hello HummerGuy I'm not sure what area you live in but I can tell you that Allstate/State Farm/Progressive all are pretty much even on their auto rates. I work for an auto insurance company and can tell you the best rates here in Texas are found with Farmers. I've had them now for over 15 years and have been nothing but satisfied with my service/claims experience. There are different ratios involved in to how the auto insurance rate is determined only one part being the area you live in. I don't keep my auto/home/life insurance with the company I work for only because I can't get the dual discount for having all my policies with the same company. Plus I see it as a conflict of interest to be insured with same company you work with. Also your rate CAN go up by living in a less densely populated area, you are farther away from fire department for one, and you end of having to drive further to commute to work/town etc.

It's not always cheaper to stay with the same company either.... GEICO wouldn't insure my house for homeowners or for flood.... so I think mine break down as $589/6mo for Auto, $1710/12mo homeowners, and flood was something outrageous.... it escapes me but I think that number was $1200/12mo
Shop around though.... I think the progressive website gives you a few other rates....

Those sites that give multiple quotes are not always accurate. It's going to base it on a presumed clear driving record and excellent credit rating. You are better off calling around to different companies and getting your rate quote over the phone.
We saved over $400 a year by combining all of ours under one company, but I agree it's not always that way. Flood insurance is going to be so high because of the huge amount of claims that the insurance companies dealt with. They were hit hard with so many claims, a large majority don't even write flood policies now and if they do as you said they are astronomical.

I think you just have to shop for your area. When I moved to AZ from FL, Allstate jacked up my rates on the Camaro I had at the time. I moved to State Farm as they were hundreds of dollars less than Allstate, yet when I was in FL State Farm was more for the same car. I'm not saying State Farm is the best deal (it is for me); you'll just have to shop and find what works best for you.
What's another reason to like my H3? My insurance went DOWN when I got it vs my two year old Honda Civic that I traded in.

I've been with State Farm for 20+ years. Never had an issue with them and they treat me well

i have state farm also
and have never had a problem w/ them either
truck,H3,motorcycle and 4 wheeler
my house and life ins. is with farm bureau
farm bureau dont do motorcycles and state farm was cheaper if i moved
all the vehicles over

I appreciate the feedback. It sounds to me like I might have a good deal already. My H3 insurance is $460 and my homeowners insurance through the same company is only about $400 for a year, and that's with wind, hail etc. damage coverage. My house can't flood because it's raised above the street so in theory maybe a part of the basement could flood in which case there's nothing down there anyway to damage really. I'll probably just stick with what I have. It sounds like it may not be worth it to switch to save such a small amount of money.

Check Liberty Mutual. They are the cheapest I've ever found. I tried Allstate and they were 200 more per vehicle, Geico was almost 400 more a year, GMAC was 350 more a year, and esurance, that internet insurance, wanted for just 6 months what I pay for a whole year.
