Steve, Only issue with that is I've never put mine in the 4wheel drive mode.
It's been mainly city/highway driving right now. hmmmm it's a thought though.

Hot here in Texas today and I could hear it everwhere I went.  I just have to find the time to take it in now.  Never enough hours in the day it seems.

Wow..... I was driving my 07H3 today and noticed some light thumps, didn't feel anything in the pedals that I recall but I did hear the noise several times, mostly when the road got a little rough. Sounds like it is coming from down under the firewall near my steering column and pedals. It doesn't sound like it's in the cab though. I was wondering if the recent trip to Moab knocked something out of kilt.

Never noticed this before and I certainly would have as it's hard not to notice it when it does it. Just rolled over 10K miles.

Check your tow rings.  Mine sounded like this for the first few months I owned it.  When it comes from the factory, they don't tighten them.  I went out to the tow rings, gave the bolts a few turns...problems solved.  If they are loose enough that you can move them without a decent amount of force, its too lose and it'll rattle when you go over a bump.  They are attached directly to the frame so when it bangs, it rattles the whole car and things that are touching the body/frame...like the steering wheel and gas pedal.  All 3 of mine are tightened down so that if i need to pull it out, you really have to pull on em hard.  There is a little compression nut in the middle that eventually compresses and needs to be re-tightened.  As it warmed up this summer, I heard the rattle return so I had to tighten them a few times.
Might not be all the problems for everybody but I would say a significant amount of reports will be fixed by checking your rings.

Hello everyone !  I'm new to the forum....... I'm now the owner of an 07' H3 with the same problems most of you have described.  The problem started with less than 800 miles.  Interesting enough, I drove an 06" H3 for 11 months (17, 800 miles) with no problems.....Anyway, I just took my 07' to the dealer and the service rep. knew exatcly the problem I was reporting.  The replacement part will take few weeks before arrival.  The heat definitively agravates the problem(ratle), and I may add that the ratle is driving me crazy .   You all are the greatest.  Great communication !  I'll stay tuned.......

Great thread to read on front-end rattle . . . I bought an '07 in early May and now have 2250 miles on it and just started to notice the rattle in the pedals in the past week or so.  Took it to the dealership this morning.  Service manager indicated he had 4 other '07's in last week with similar symptoms.  He went on to tell me he was not sure of the cause and would have to defer to his specialist on what the "fix" would require (will likely get the call this afternoon on what the fix will entail).  From all the threads it sounds like after the usual checking for loose parts and fittings (or missing bolts in one case) they will need to check the lower steering component as suggested in threads above -- I will be calling the dealership shortly to share with them what I have read and will print a copy off for them to review.  The dealership and service department have been good to work with over the past couple of years and am confident they will stay after it to make sure it gets fixed right.

Ironically, I had a 2006 H3 and had a lot of problems with it including head replacement.  After 16 warranty visits to the dealership over the course of 1.5 years on the 2006 H3, I was ready to throw in the towel and go back to driving a Toyota when they made me a decent offer to trade up for a 2007 model.  I hesitated greatly trading up for a 2007 H3 and hoped when I did I would be leaving the many problems I had with the 2006 behind . . . hope I do not come to regret the trade for the 2007 H3!!

Keep the threads coming in around the U.S. on what dealerships are doing to cure the rattles -- I'd like to get this fixed and hopefully start enjoying a vehicle with no problems!!!

DUXBAK . . . .

Interesting !  My 06' H3 was a late 06' production and within 17, 800 miles/11 months of use was all good.  I hope my 07' "dispite the ratle pedal drive my cracy problem"  would be the same.......a good truck !

quick update: my new (old design) replacement steering shaft started rattling all the same again over the weekend just as bad as before.  just wanted to share the news incase any service depts try to push off any non-redesigns.  its not worth the time and effort until the new ones come (assuming they actually correct the problem).  also, called sewell about it as well and their still waiting for the new part.  given, this is the least of my worries at this point, but i wanted to share.

Thanks for the update. I'm going to bring it up to my dealer again tomorrow but delay service until they are ready. This started for me week 1 of ownership but I couldn't recreate it for the dealer. That was all before this thread started.

Interesting thread.  I, like many, just started experiencing the exact same thing about a week and a half ago.  I have an '07 w/ approx 1300 mi.
It was very hot the day I first heard and felt the "clunking".  It came out of nowhere and went from bad to worse.  Then, like magic, I was out that same night (had cooled down substantially) and it was back to normal.
A guy I spoke with who specializes in alignment/balance issues on 4x4s, said that the bushings in the r&p steering assembly are prob softening up when it's hot, giving the impression that the steering is "loose".  Then they stiffen back up when it's cooler.  I was skeptical that this was the issue and wanted to do a bit of research before taking it in.  Based on what I'm hearing from others in this thread, it sounds more likely that it's the steering shaft issue.  Especially since GM is specifically addressing this as a concern.
There is definitely a correllation between the loose clunking and the temp/humidity.  Last week (all 75-80 degree highs) I didn't feel a thing.  Early this week (early/mid 80s highs) I felt it a little.  Yesterday and today (hot and humid as all get out) I'm feeling it more exaggerated.
I will be talking to dealer service about the steering shaft issue soon.

Another update.  The problem is definitely in the lower steering column and there is now a GM Service Bulletin out advising service departments there is a problem and that they are working to correct the deficient part.  They are not sure how long it will be until a "good" part is available -- could be a few weeks, could be longer and then all of us lucky folks will have to stand in line for them to distribute them in the order of request around the country.  My advice, get your backorder in now so you are given priority.

While I had my '06 H3 ran into similar issues with poor availability of replacement parts for warranty repairs . . . . hopefully somewhere in all this someone at GM and Hummer is finally getting a clue that parts should be in good supply rather than waiting in line for parts taken literally from the assembly line area.

While attempting to address this, I also have come to notice a rattling in the rear end.  Come to find out the rear door was not in proper alignment and the weather stripping was rubbing.  They attempted to fix this with a door adjustment as well but, a long work related drive yesterday proved the fix did not hold.  Will be visiting them again soon to get this resolved as well.

Starting to get that bad feeling the trade from an '06 to an '07 was not such a good thing after all . . . hanging in there a while longer but, eying Toyota's again.

Moving on with a rattle up front and rattle on the rear end . . . . driving me &#@()$&*$!!!!

Staying tuned . . . . .

Do you know what the TSB number is?  I took mine to the dealer this morning for oil change and dead battery they are going to do free, and told them about the issue i've noticed when driving hot weather 45+ minutes and he said he had never heard of it, and that the H2's have a TSB for steering column issue, but not the H3.  I told him this is something brand new.  So I was thinking of getting him the TSB number.
