2008 Hummer H3 Alpha

With fuel prices steadily rising across America throughout 2007, many consumers thought spiraling fuel costs would be the death knell of big Hummer SUVs. However, the strong presence of these go-anywhere vehicles has kept interest alive enough for the company to introduce a new version of the H3 and a restyled H2 for the 2008 model year. The H3 Alpha is at the top of the H3 lineup, offering higher performance as well as increased luxury (there is NO increased luxury that cannot be ordered on any other H3. Unless they are saying the Alpha embroidery and emblems are increased luxury). The added performance is courtesy of a 5.3-liter V8 engine producing 300 horsepower (not confirmed by SAE tests...yet, but last I read it will most likely be around 292 hp), which gives the Alpha a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds—a 33 percent increase over the standard H3. A Chrome Appearance package, 16-inch chrome wheels, a 4.10 rear axle ratio and special Alpha identification, including a prominent tailgate badge, horn pad badge and embroidered front headrests with the “Alpha” insignia also help differentiate this special H3.

That piece on the lower front bumper is a Federal Requirement. It makes it harder to run over top of a smaller vehicle if you forget to stop.

seems like know one cares.
the power was the only thing i wasn't that happy about. other then
that i gotta say i love my H3. but if the H4 comes out i may talk the
wife into getting me that in stead of trading in her H3.

Its just silver paint, you can always paint the bumpers black or chrome them.

The '08 is nice I like the front underpiece and the idea of a v8 but I'll stick with my '07 for awhile.

Hey JB, it's not that folks aren't interested, it's just that the V8-H3 and the H4
topics have been beat to death on every Hummer forum known to God and man
for the past 2 years. A lot of folks are at that **** or get off the pot stage....

You want to have some fun, use the search engine to find these old posts and look at all
the speculation, wishin' and fishin that went on........

A select few, who truly were in the know, must have had grand sport @ our expense....

I think they missed the boat with the V8.  They didn't use the 6.0 V8 that's available in the TrailBlazer SS...395HP!!  What a disappoinment!

I went to the Dealer today to check out another SUV

The H3x is nice but I have some issues with it visability for 1.
Found a nice looking Porsche Cayenne there took it for a spin. Discoverd I really like my little Hummer.

That 3.7 5 Cylinder motor has a good amount of power. It feels like it has two powerbands one from 2000RPM another around 4500.
Must be that variable valve timming.

I own and have owned all kinds of Sports cars but I have to say the Hummer H3x isn't lacking in power.

Compared to the base Porsche Cayenne I decided to keep the H3.

I agree with Butch, with those three things you don't need a V8.

I have the hat trick updates on my 07 H3 and it performs very well. I don't tow anything so that's not an issue.

I do admire the torque and HP of the Alpha but honestly, the I-5 has 242HP, the V-8 has 292HP???WTF??? AM I missing something here? That doesn't seem like a robust HP increase, I know the torque is much better but HP increase is rather weak IMO. I think I may be close to that HP rating with the K&N, PCM and Magnaflow Exhaust..

One thing I would really like that the 08 has is the new styled doors, the armrest slants up in the front and that's where they put the window controllers. I don't like where they are now, WAY TOO FAR BACK for my liking but it's not a deal breaker. Wonder if I could get my doors upgraded
