Hey Guys, looking to buy a Hummer wagon and I found a 1998 Wagon 6.5 Diesel with 330,000 Miles Yes 330,000 Miles, its has a winch, roof rack and NO CTIS.  It does have some Rust starting around the seams especially on the rear wagon area

I can buy it for 20,000 USD.....Is this a good buy or should I wait for something with less Millage????

Thanks Darren

Any idea what shape the mechanicals are in and what has or has not been replaced?

Well, it certainly is a good looking vehicle. Although the mileage may not be original to the engine, it might still be applicable to the chassis, underpinnings, as well as to the body. See if they'll (the bank) will allow you to have it properly 'checked-out' by a Hummer dealer prior to consummating the deal. Although twenty grand really isn't all that much money for a vehicle these days, the mileage (531,433 km) is what would scare me the most about the entire deal.  Suggestion: You could always offer the bank less than twenty grand, as it's no doubt a 'repo' and they'd much prefer not to 'hang onto' it? Good luck.

If it is a repo then the asking price might be the balance left owed on it, since they aren't trying to make money on them typically. Also, if it is a repo, then the big question becomes what shape is the mechanicals, not as though that wasn't a concern to begin with, but if it's going to get repo'd, run the snot out of it.

$20,000 CDN seems like a pretty good price, but you need to decide how much the mileage scares you .  Not sure where in BC you live, but there are 2 more H1 wagons for sale in Kelowna, and 1 in Vernon, all in good shape, lower mileage, and full load (CTIS, roof racks, winch, etc), but not sure on the prices though.

No CTIS is unusual for that year - I would guess it was sold as a fleet/commercial truck.  Maybe a promo truck for a company?  If so, it was probably driven by non-owners = driven hard/badly treated.

330,000 miles is high!  Some history regarding number of owners, etc., would be helpful.  I would get the VIN and call AM General to get a service/ownership history on it.

Those wheels are odd - never seen them on a Hummer before.  And those tires look like 35's, instead of 37's.

Not really an opinion I guess, just some thoughts... my $.01 :P

Bro 20k for an h1 with over 300,00 miles no way...Why dont you spend another 5k to 10k and get an h1 which is more likely to be problem free?

If you have the VIN number I can run a carfax report for you.  Send the VIN to chsnprodigy@yahoo.com.  There has to be a history behind this H1:)
