vibration in dash or windshield

timmyc -> vibration in dash or windshield (5/23/2007 6:30:09 AM)

OK here is the problem. I have a 2006 H2 and since I have owned it, I have not driven it very fast or far. Recently I started taking trips in it and traveling alot on I95 up and down the east coast. What I found is that every time I reach speeds at and above 70, I experience severe vibrations on both sides of the truck. It feels that the vibs. are under the top of the dash. It is definitely an air and wind caused problem. The vibs. are worse on windy days and during gusts of wind.. I drove from Delaware to Georgia and thought I was going to go crazy listening to these vibs. I originally thought it was air coming in from the side louvers but now I really don't know. Thought I would run it on this site before taking it to a dealer. Any help would be appriciated.

Mine does the same thing, sounds like the dash is rattling right?  From what I've heard that's just the case and can be solved with 3M double sided tape .. at least that's what one dealer did for another member .. I can't remember who on top of my head though ...

it's air getting between the windshield and the reveal moldings(windshield side moldings), easy fix. open the front doors, pull the front of the weather strip back from the reveal molding, there are 2 screws you remove and the reveal molding will pull off. clean the molding and the windshield and put some new double sided tape on the molding and reinstall.

Zyne, it does sound like the air is rattling something just under the surface of the dash.
I will try the tape on the moldings and see what happens. Thanks for the info. alpha4wd

Ahhh..... that's what that is??  I only notice mine above 85-90..... I was thinking it was in the clearance lights.... or the roof rail....

Yep, that's what it is. I was the one who had the dealer do the 'fix' for my '06 H2. After they added the 3M automotive adhesive tape to the underside of the windshield side trim, the noise never resurfaced. Your dealer should already be aware of the problem as it's somewhat inherent to many of the H2s...good luck. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

I had the same problem and I solved it using some sort of glass adhesive stripping. It was basically a roll of the black sticky stuff that is used to seal/stick the windshield on. I think that you could even get the same results with some bath tub caulking. Easy fix that makes a big difference.

When I told my service advisor at my local Hummer dealer about my roof vibration niose at high speeds on my H2 , he immediately said it was the widshield piller posts, he had an outside glass company that they use come to the dealer and seal the sides of the windshield under the trim Hopefully end of problem, he was confident that the problem was solved. I need to get it on the freeway on a windy day to make sure.

Welp, we finally experienced the same noise today while going to Paige's parents lake house. I was driving about 70-75 and the rattle was driving us crazy. I need to do as you guys say and fix it. The wind was pretty strong so that must be a huge factor.

Funny thing, on the way home I was driving the same speed with no rattle at all. I think it all depends on how bad the wind is outside.

Went to the dealership yesterday afternoon and got them windshield rattle fix. We have 38K miles and they still fixed it. Also fixed some PI that had to do with a popping noise in the front end. Didn't charge us a penny.

This is a good dealership. It is Carl Black Hummer in Roswell, GA.
