Hey guys, dealer just called in to let me know my brand new BirchH3 just arrived!!! I'll post some pics once I get a chance.
Just a quick question though, does the OEM 6 disc changer play Mp3's? I want to upgrade the stock radio and the dealer can sell me the 6 disc changer for cheap but what I really want is to be able to play mp3's. Any idea?

6cd does not have this option.  GM has a factory option to play mp3 discs, but it is rarely ordered by dealers.

The MP3 compatible radio has a single CD player.  If you want to play MP3's, you can have him install that radio instead.

Otherwise, take the 6-disc unit and just burn .wav files instead of MP3 files.  Either way, you'll have access to at least a hundred tracks.

So the changer won't play mp3's??? Bummer... So how can I tell the difference between the plain old single cd player and the mp3 player version? Does it say "mp3" on the faceplate? Is there a part number?
Thanks again.

I've got 5 cd's burned with mp3's through iTunes in my 6-disk cd changer right now.

All I did was drag the songs I wanted to a playlist, then burned the playlist to a cd.

Not sure what is different in an mp3 player.

Perhaps this will help:

It has the MP3 logo on the face plate and the #5 and #6 buttons have what appear to be "file folder" icons.

If you get one, I'm gonna be jealous....almost bought one off of e-bay but was to cheap to pay the dealer
an hours labor to re-program the thing with my VIN.

I wish I had now.

Do you mean the regular 6 disc will play wav files?

That's what I do with mine.  I always burn copies of our CD's and make special mixes for our cars.  I never bring purchased CD's into our cars anymore because they tend to get trashed too easily.  You can also usually burn almost all the tracks from at least 2 CD's onto one CD even when maintaining the .wav file format.  This turns the 6-disc changer into a virtual 12-disc unit.

I've been using Nero Ultra Edition for years and can recomend it.  There may also be something better out there now but if you don't want to bother with researching software packages, just go with Nero.  It takes a little practice to use it because it's a very powerful audio/video software suite but it works great.
