WTB Rocker Panel Protectors?

I'm seriously considering purchasing rocker panel protectors.  Can anyone tell me a cheap, but quality place/site to buy them?  The cheapest I found thus far are on gmaccessories-direct.com for about $460.  Please let me know.

Dave, I've been on this same quest for a good while..  I keep thinking someone is gonna have to come out with something that's got some "bang for the buck" value to it...

The the best of my knowledge, right now there are three choices fro rock rails..  The ones from GM ($460 + shipping)..  A company called Rocky Roads http://www.rocky-road.com/ ($420 + shipping)..  Or have some custom fabbed up...   I myself have a problem dropping $400+ bucks for these things since you can find these exact same parts for Jeeps and Tacos all day long for $250...

Thanks Rob!  I didn't know about Rocky-Roads.  I actually like those a little better than the factory's, but I can't tell how far they stick out from the body in the pics.  I really don't want anything that resembles a side step as they only get in my way (i.e. get my pant legs dirty).  I agree that its tough to justify spending $400+ on those.  The freaking dealership I purchased my vehicle from wanted to charge me $900...HA!  Thanks again for the info.  I'll let you know if/when I get them.

From what I have read at the "other" site, the Rocky Roads bars dont fit right and may need some tweaking to get the bolt holes to line up. That may have been a early production problem and might be fixed, or it may not be. I got the GM factory style ones from my dealership and put them on myself. They are heavy and hard to maneuver with one hand until you get a bolt started, but are well made and fit like a glove. Make sure you have the parking brake released when you do the driver's side though, because you have to move the cable out of the way of one of the brackets. Space is limited and one or two clicks on the ratchet may be all you can get, but so far they have been worth all of the effort. I look at the scratches and gouges in the metal and think about what would have happened if I hadn't put them on. They may be expensive, but they are cheaper than sheet metal damage.

Do not buy them from rocky roads I know because my friend bought some. They do not line up correctly at all (pain in the A!#). I hate to say it but go with the factory ones they are pretty strong and also they bolt directly on with no hassels.

Wow!  Linus/Zoo, I can't thank you guys enough!  I just spent the last hour trying to decide which brand I like better.  I figure they're both going to be better protection than what I have now.  So, the decision was literally coming down to just the look (I sound like a chick...I know).  However, the hassles of installation are definitely a major factor.  Looks like I'm going w/ the factory...if they're good enough for Linus (who I'm sure gets more use out of them than I will), then they're good enough for me [:D].

My next question, should I see if my dealer will match the GMAccessories price in hopes of saving on shipping?  Or just concede and buy them on-line?

It never hurts to ask if the dealership will meet/beat the price. As my dad always said, "The answer is always "No" until you ask!"
I think you will be pleased with them, and yes, I have abused them pretty hard. They are not indistructable, but they are pretty tough.

Just for grins, compare the total shipped cost versus the dealership cost. I would go with the cheaper of the two.

Simian be careful the templetes my friend got were bad at least a 1/2" off. Hope you have better luck. Looking forward to your report.

Just viewed there website my friend had a jeep and he had to use a templete to mount his. It looks like the H3 should mount using the factory holes. One thing to add; they are truly rock soild and heavy.

I'd heard the same thing about the RRs..  One other thing I've heard I'm not fond of is the fact that when they mocked up the first set to use as a template, they missed the #3 support bar because there's a big sticker on the frame that covers the bolt holes..  Last I heard they have not corrected that..  However, they have enough faith in the product as is, that if they EVER fail, as long as they are still in business they will replace them at zero cost...

Well, I took Linus' advice and finally bought the factory-style rockers.  I'm not much of a handy-man, so I figured I'd save myself the frustration of non-fitting RRs.  Got them from an on-line store on eBay called Part-Industries (?).  The total was about $50 cheaper than GM Accessories.  I'll send an update once I receive and install them.
