cleaning glass

poncho -> cleaning glass (5/1/2007 9:36:15 PM)

well I found a trick to get rid of the obnoxious hard water deposits staining the windows.............a metal polish I used to use on the aluminum motorhome wheels.

BUT -- there are little dots of what appears to be white paint from when the dealer wrote some stupid message there on.  Its not responding to the metal polish, paint remover or nail polish remover.   I don't have the guts to try the 0000 steel wool.

Any ideas??????????????????

Vinegar, wiped off with newspaper works good to clean glass and dissolves many things.  It's cheap, and does not leave any streaks.

I use a product used in the Yachting Industry for decades. Wink ! No, really. Wink is a Rust Stain Remover for clothes. You can find it many Supermarkets. A small brown plastic bottle. It is basically Phosphoric Acid. Wear gloves, put some on a rag and wipe on a small area and wipe off. DO NOT let it sit. If left on it will etch your glass. Once you wipe it off you will see all the deposits are gone. Spray on Windex for the shine, which will also neutralize any acid particles left on the glass. If it works in the harsh environments of the Sea it will work wherever you care to go. I use it on the shower doors at home.

To get rid of water spots on glass use BON AMI (Do not use on painted surfaces) and a damp sponge. After you clean your glass I then use RainX or Rain Clear Glass Repellent .

A 96 cent can of BON AMI does the same as the Zaino at 13 bucks. I've used it for years.
Blackfire is my choice for wax.

with all due respect, ive been detailing cars for years and all i can say is that zaino by itself is overpriced and not that great... theyre products do however work AMAZING when you you get creative and start mixing them with different things for some reason...

I have been using this product for years on our auto glass and the glass in my home.  The wife and I find that this is the best glass cleaner on the market.

that is a good product, half the time that people have a hard time with glass it isnt because of the product or chemical, its due to what your using to wipe with.  you have to make sure to use something lint free for the best results, and its also a good idea to clean with one towel and then go over it again with a dry microfiber... and for gods sake dont wad up the towel and start cleaning random spots haha fold the thing over and use as much of it as you can. and for the post about paint on the window, if a razor blade doesnt get it off and all else fails get some solvent and spray it onto a towel.. then wipe the paint specs away.. just dont spray the can near the car, brake cleaner works too..

geeggee -> RE: cleaning glass (2/4/2008 4:32:46 PM)

Denatured alcohol is recommended for glass and metal.  It's also good for using to clean surfaces before applying chrome or ABS bling which has red 3M tape.

alphadogg -> RE: cleaning glass (2/5/2008 11:05:38 AM)

I use a product called Castle Glass Cleaner in a spray can that will remove anything including any stickers on your windows that you might not want removed so be very careful. I spray it on and let it stand for a few minutes, it's a foam so it doesn't run and it softens glue, gunk, bugs and just about anything then I rub it in and use a squeegee to get the windows shinning clean.
