Allrighty then...

Listen..I'm open minded...So in the next day or so, I will preform the same experiment as you did Linus and I'll fess up to the results no matter how it turns out..In fact I'll even go more scientific and do it on the same day within the same hour and use a Raytek infrared scanner...in all, to keep all the other variables constant, but only vary the pressure....I'm very curious now...Thanks for the good discussion..What you guys are saying may also makes some sense...

So what is ideal or optimum tire pressures then?..I'm not saying to over inflate like you're suggesting, as this would cause the center of the tread to wear more than the outer edges as you said and I concur..and I'm not saying to undeinflate either, as this will cause the outer edges to wear more than the center tread and also damage the sidewalls...

But in the mean time read this Tire Rack infohttp://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b47/Atwater/92.jpg

The LINUS Experiment

This is a controlled unbiased experiment On; 05/20/2006 @ 12:00PM to 12:30PM CST:
Tire pressure vs. Tire Temperature

Ambient outside air temperature was;

This is the tire pressure I usually run my tires at (cold):

Drove this many Miles and the exact same route durning both runs

This was the temperature of the tire after the first 10.8 mile test test drive with 45.5 PSI. @92°F Ambient outside temp.

Reduced the Tire pressure to 33PSI and repeated test trip exactly.

At return of second trip with a tire pressure of 33PSI, after a 10.8 miles test trip, with 92°F outside ambient air temp.,
This was the tire tread temperature.

My hand isn't that calibrated. I just placed it on the tread surface and the center was way hotter then the shoulder area. After letting some air out, the temp was more even and felt cooler. I will say that your method definately does produce more accurate results.
