O.K. The Dealer contacted me today with this offer.

They are willing to take back my 265/16 Spare Tire & Aluminum Hummer Rim, and give me a $100.00 credit for them towards my upgraded spare tire of a ProComp 35x12.5x18LT M&S Tire, and I would have to pay $650.00.

My question to you all is:     "Deal or No Deal"?

It would seem to me that the $100.00 bucks they've offered is a low ball figure, seeing as they know how badly I need & want a Spare & wheel that is the same model & size for safety & rotation purposes.  After all, this "HUMMER DEALERSHIP" will easily be able to resell both to another "HUMMER CUSTOMER" at full cost or any mark up they would normally assess.

I'm not asking for a free or even trade because that would be irresponsible & unrealistic. HOWEVER, since I originally asked for the Spare to be brought up to size & model as we were purchasing the vehicle and was told "It can't be done, it won't fit!"  I feel that after all the help many of you offered me and with me making an unplanned trip to a Discount Tire to prove them wrong.  They owe me more than a $100.00!!!!!

Please select from the choices below, to let me know what you think.  The photo of the rim is below (I hope).  If not the model Helo is Maxx 6.

Thanks In Advance!

David

I'm not sure about being able to sell the stock rim and tire easily to another HUMMER CUSTOMER at full cost.  I purchased (4) H3 rims on Ebay that were new car takeoffs for $150 + shipping for all 4....not a big resale market for stock rims.  I think you can do better tha $100, but not by much.

I agree there is not a huge market for used H3 rims, so $100 seems not too bad.  If you sold them privately, you would need to get the tire mounted and balanced and they might charge you for this.  I'd make sure the mounting and balancing is included, and try and squeeze them for a few more bucks!

Man, I’m not to sure about that deal.

Let me see if I’ve got my math right.

$100 credit for your factory spare and rim

plus

$650 out of your pocket for the Maxx 6 and ProComp MT tire
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$750 total cost for the new spare tire and wheel.

Is that correct?

Four Wheel Parts sells the 18” Maxx 6 for $184 and the 12.50X35 ProComp MT for $306.

$490.00 total plus taxes, mounting and balancing.

Big difference in price.

O.K., to clear things up they wanted $750.00 for the tire & the wheel.  However, they said they'd give me $100.00 for the UNUSED Stock tire & wheel.  So the total cost to me would be $650.00, AND I'd have to drive over 100 miles Round Trip to do this.

A local Discount Tire Dealer here is getting me the tire & the wheel, with mounting, road hazard, taxes, etc. for $507.00.

So I save on the mileage, gas, & overall cost.  Plus, I keep the Stock Spare & Wheel to sell privately.  Even if I only get $50.00 for the both I could still be getting the new tire & wheel for almost $200.00 dollars CHEAPER than the damned dealership was willing to do for me.  They were obviously more willing to "Do Me" rather than to "do right by me" IMHO!

So, anyone else think that my dealer's offer was a good deal?

Thanks to all who participated and offered great honest advice.

Good for you........

Now I wonder.....Did this little episode cost that dealer any future business from you or your friends?

Well, Wonder No More!!!  Unless I need immediate, "Emergency Service", I will drive right past them, almost to Denver (almost 100 miles One Way), to have any "Special" work done!  Furthermore, I will not only refrain from referring them to anybody, and I'll do my damnedest to steer people away from them.

Sad when you think about it!!!  Because the actual buying experience was phenomenal!!!  The most pleasant car shopping experience I've EVER had.  No Pressure Sales, Extremely Friendly.  But this whole deal has really soured me!!!    Like I'm some kind of moron or something!!!

Their loss though!!!

Again, MANY THANKS to you all who took the time to contribute!  I guess the final Poll vote should be: AW HELL NO!!!!!!
