Head valve ?????????

patrol343 -> Head valve ????????? (4/20/2007 10:52:37 PM)

Ok I see a ton of head valve problems on here and I tried to read some of them but it is getting way to confusing....

Here is my questions if anyone can help me...

1. Is there any way to know if my vehicle is going to have valve problems like vin, date of manufacture or anything of that nature???

2. How would I know if I am having valve problems????

3. I am planning on taking my H3 to ocean city this summer and is it going to be ok if I am halfway down there and something occurs??? Or should I just not take it????

4. Is it a definite that my Check engine light will come on??????

And you call yourself a cop?[8|][:D][:D]

1. If the last 8 digits in your VIN is less than 68287591 , there is a higher probability that you may be having this issue.

2. Engine runs rough at idle..excessive gas use.

3. Take it..It will still get you around if you have the problem..don't let this rule your life.

4. No..not always...Sarah's didn't

patrol343 -> RE: Head valve ????????? (4/21/2007 5:05:50 PM)

Yes I am thank you much..[:D][:D][:D] and I dont have an issue because these things are recorded down.....I mean if they are having an issue with these head valves then there has to be a way for them to know when they were made or processed..... if there is a bad batch going around...

Damn, all these postings have got me nervous.  I just bought a used 06 with 30,000 rides good no problems so far, but I wonder if there is anything I can do for prevention.

littlehummerboy -> RE: Head valve ????????? (5/15/2007 2:56:58 PM)

Maybe check the service history of that vehicle with GM.  Perhaps the head has already been replaced on it, then it's unlikely you will have problems with it.

punkrrr -> RE: Head valve ????????? (5/16/2007 6:37:06 AM)

07 H3 with only 9,000 miles and has been babied (no off road or driven hard). Started this AM, check engine light came on, with engine sputtering. Called dealer, took in for check. Needs new head as per dealer. 3rd repair on this vehicle (all previously covered under warranty, hopefully this will too).

Unless you are over in mileage or years..everything short of the brakes, belts, wipers, tires, and fluids is covered by the warranty.

Thanks, Dennis. I will take that approach with the service rep. I have to call him tomorrow to find out when I can get my ride back.

Dennis -> RE: Head valve ????????? (5/16/2007 9:08:31 AM)

No prob..Seriously though, if the dealer is treating you right, always treat them with patients and a smile in your voice..this way the job is most likely done right.

I agree, they are there to help me and did not cause my issues.

punkrrr -> RE: Head valve ????????? (5/17/2007 11:19:55 AM)

I finally got a return call from my service rep. Good news and bad news.
[:)] Good news (?): A bad head/valves was only his "assumption" and "prelimnary diagonisis" prior to having the shop check it. That is fine, I would not hold him to that as it is what he told me he thought it was when I left it with him. I was a little puzzled that he held the vehicle for 24 hours prior to getting the shop to make a diagonisis after telling me that, which he may/will need to order parts for.
[:'(] Bad news: After getting a "official H3 mechanic" to run a code check and diagonisis, my service rep is saying it came back that I had a bad coil pack. He said they should be able to have it the part in, replaced, and I can get the H3 back by tomorrow late AM/noon.
Honestly, I hope that is all it was and not the head so they will not have to disassemble the top end. I am concerned that particular item doesn't seem to be a problem with other H3's while I had the same symptoms as those whom have had thier heads replaced. Also, is this a symptom of future electrical problems, since it came from the blue out of nowhere? The vehicle was performing normally and this just popped up. Hopefully they are not just trying to band-aid patch another bigger problem. Fingers crossed and will keep a Positive Mental Attitude. Always keep that PMA. I will let you know how it performs after tomorrows pick-up.

Dennis -> RE: Head valve ????????? (5/17/2007 12:25:37 PM)

Electronics as in your inginition pack is not a biggie and very common across the auto industry to fail...I will also agree that the replacement part is a simple fix and non-intrusive...To me, that is a lot better news than a head problem like first suspected...I can see why he jumped on that premature diagnosis as he was probably use to the 06 H3s, that have had a few of these with Head/valve problems...

punkrrr -> RE: Head valve ????????? (5/18/2007 4:54:28 AM)

Got the H3 back this AM. They replaced coil pack and plug (fouled out). It is running fine after being driven about 20 miles. Hopefully this is the fix. I would have to give them a thumbs up on this.

Hi Folks.  I'm new to the forum.  Recent '06 H3 owner.  2nd day of owning (brand new), Stab Sys/4X4 Service light comes on, took it in, had to replace the Actuator Motor (Transfer Case).  Been reading alot about the head problems.  My Step-Father is the Service Manager at a Cadillac/Hummer dealership and told me that it is a problem with a poorly built Cylinder Head and the new head is re-designed and corrects the issue.  He said it usually happens between 6K and 11K miles, but can happen at any time.  Does not hurt the vehicle to drive, don't worry about it, check engine light should come on, and take to the dealership.  If they are a high volume dealership, then they should already have them in stock by now because this problem is VERY common and large hummer dealerships are being stocked.  He told me the 2 biggest problems with the 06 H3 is that head replacement issue, and the Actuator Motor (TXFR Case).  So, I'm 1 for 2.  Love the H3 though, its a beautiful vehicle.  Comments?  Cheers.

Welcome, and make sure you say "hello" in our New Member area Here.  Yes, we have heard about the '06 head issue, in fact, we have several therads devoted to it, check them out if you want more info.  The transfer case actuator is also a known issue.

Congrats.
