H3 Alpha gas mileage

bobopotato -> H3 Alpha gas mileage (4/15/2007 5:18:26 PM)

So we saw the new alpha at the NY autoshow yesterday. Man the gas mileage goes down to the reported 13/16mpg. I'm guessing from the 14mpg I have now with my 07 (from the reported 15/19), it'll probably be 11-12mpg on the alpha for me... close to the H2? I wonder what the price's gonna be like... they don't have the official numbers yet when we asked.

The EPA is revising the fuel economy standards for all vehicles for 2008.  Numbers for 2008 models are going to be much less than for 2007's.  Thus, I'd wait to see what the expected fuel economy numbers for the 2008 3.7L are and compare them to these numbers prior to passing any judgments.  The 2008 numbers are supposed to be more in line with actual/real-world fuel economy numbers.  Though, I said when they first announced the Alpha that I was disappointed that the 5.3L did not include Active Fuel Management.

I also have a 07 Yukon with the 5.3l engine proposed for the Alpha.  I get much better mileage in the Yukon: 18 mpg doing 80mph on the freeway vs. 15.5 mpg doing 80mph in the H3. The H3 mileage drops like a rock over 65mph.  At 60mph or below, I can get close to 18.   I think the cylinder deactivation is hokey, but seems to work.  I bet the Alpha with the V8 and cylinder deactivation gets better real world mileage than the 3.7l 5cyl, at least on the hwy.

i get 16 mpg  on my 07 and thats mostly stop and go country driving
my 5.3L Z-71  gets 14.5  mpg on the same rds
so im thinkin the H3 w/ the 5.3 will get close to my Z-71
but being the H3  runs in 4wd all the time  it might get alittle less than that
i reckon we all will have to wait and see

Was talkin to my Dealer bout this truck and they said it will start in the low $4o,ooos and it will be a limited edition for one year then the H3 will come out with the V-8 5.3 Lt as an optional engine.

HummerGuy -> RE: H3 Alpha gas mileage (4/16/2007 10:24:36 AM)

That's crazy. Now it's getting down to the Escalade MPG.  If you put a bigger engine in a smaller truck, wouldn't you think you'd get better mileage with that same engine?  I know the standards are changing, but I'll stick with my 3.5L 5-speed.  That's about as good of mileage anybody is going to get on a H3.  I'm not giving that baby up for anything.

Jeep -> RE: H3 Alpha gas mileage (4/17/2007 7:05:13 AM)

At the dealer party we were told the Alpha will get 16mpg and cost $47,000 minimum.  I'm thinking more like 12mpg.  I want one bad woo wooo.

I bought an H3 Alpha a few months back and have been getting around 15-16mpg about half hwy half city.  I think a major factor is keeping your foot light on the gas.  I bought a Scan Gage to remind me of how much fuel I'm burning (it has a mpg gage that tells you what your mpg is at any given time).  Although.... the Alpha sounds sweet when I'm hitting it hard.  [:D]

H3Dude812 -> RE: H3 Alpha gas mileage (5/9/2008 6:02:20 PM)

Quagmeyer, is SCAN Gage the name of the device and have you tested it to see if it is accurate?  where did you buy it. I would be interested in getting something like that.  One of those features I miss from my last truck.
