Mounting a 315 spare - a little help

07HummerH3 -> Mounting a 315 spare - a little help (4/9/2007 3:38:08 PM)

Now that I've got my (4) 35" MTZ's, I want to get a fifth and mount the spare but it looks like there is no way it will fit without crushing the rear wiper.  What have you guys (gals) don't to fit the larger tires on the spare?  Thanks.

I think if you do go that route..you will have to put a couple of spacer/washers on the mount where the studs come through..

sounds simple enough, thanks.

(after I posted, I thought that I was going to be told to do a "search"- sorry if it was a stupid question)

I'm using the 35" MT Toyo's and it's very close but doesn't touch the wiper at all.  You might just want to put it up there and check the spacing.

YES THE 35 WILL FIT. I HAVE THE 35 TOYOS AND NO PROBLEMS WITH IT HITTING WIPER.

Thanks for the guidance.  I think that with the tread the MTZ's are a little wider, but I'll give it the 'ole college try.

Im fixin to step up to a 315 soon here but the clearance I'm worried about is the ladder from my gobi rack.  Its looking like its not gonna fit......anybody have big tires and a gobi ladder?

My 351-75-16 BFG MT fit fine.Sounds like the MTZ's are a little bigger given the same size because some have said they rub the stablizer bars.

I've got 325's on mine and I simply used about 5 standard thickness washers on the 3 studs and got the clearance I needed.  Your tires will probably need less than 5 like mine did.

Thanks.  It sounds like it couldn't be much simpler.

O.K., following the posted advice sounds great for the wiper conflict.  How about the bottom of the spare interfering with the bumper?  Particularly when opening the back door?  Anybody notice any problems with this?  I saw that cool photo on another reply, but I don't remember if those were 35's.

Last question.  Would you buy the exact Make & Model tire for the Spare, or a cheaper wheel & tire to fit until I could get to the next or nearest tire store to get my ProComp replaced in the event of a flat?

Sorry if I'm a pain, but thanks for your time!

David

1st:  your not being a pain.

2nd:  I will soon know about the 315 fitting on the back with/without rubbing 'cause I ordered it last night and I'll be sure to pass along the results unless someone else answers you 1st

3rd:  I would definitly have the spare be the same as the tires you are running - You could use a smaller/cheaper tire as many vehicles use a donut for short distances, but it is suggested in the manual that you incorporate the spare into your tire rotations

I've had the 285 as my spare for the past week since the 315's were mounted, but I want to get the spare up to par as quickly as possible.
