i can't imagine a worse phone call, as a parent, than one telling you there's been an accident and your child didn't survive.  the second worse call, in my opinion, is the one telling you that your daughter is in a life-flight helicopter on the way to the hospital, and no other details.  that's the call i got yesterday afternoon.  the pics below are the reason behind the call.

but the best thing of all is that she came home today from the hospital, and walked herself out.

and, some more.  the boulder in the middle is the one that started the car flipping, we assume that it was already rolling after dropping down from the freeway.  the second pic shows where the car left the road, and my wife, down the road a ways, is where her car finally came to rest.

single car, over correction, probably lack of experience, and some nasty terrain.  there are a lot of us that can't believe she is still with us, let alone walking and giving us attitude just like normal.

thank you all, she's doing fine, acting tough in front of her friends, but she's pretty shaken up with it.  she's 17, invincible in her own mind, and apparently in her camry.  i think her mom had her arms around her through the whole thing, which is why she's still here.  the CHP officer that was first on the scene was surprised she survived.

So glad that she is ok, and even better that she is home. That is the type of call I hope I never have to get. I'm sorry that you did, but at least it turned out well in the end.

Being a firefighter for almost 17 years now, I'm amazed at the number of people that are walking away from bad crashes. People can say all they want about how crappy cars are made these days etc.. but I can see the drop in the amount of serious injuries over those years. Granted, that's just one persons viewpoint.. but my Fire Station is located right near a main interstate highway running through the city, and another major freeway going another direction. We make a lot of wrecks.
