Also, there's a whole lot more info on the Alpha here:

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/27/2008-hummer-h3-alpha-gets-v8-power-295-horses/

including the Press Release straight from GM (that I think wasn't supposed to be released for a few days)...

Yea...I didn't get that memo, which is apparent in the post....

The password at Hummer.com/facelift is "facelift" by the way if anyone needs it...

But yes, I will be waiting til the bugs are worked out...by the time my lease runs out the V8 will be standard lol

wonder if they have fixed the 5.3L rattle at cold starts
i know mine in the Z-71  sounds like a diesel
for 5 mins  after start up every morning
jasper engines said its cause by short piston skirts
in their rebuilds the have went with diffrent pistons
to eliminate the cold start noise.
its only on the 5.3 the 5.7 or the 4.8  dont rattle

and  my 5.3L gets 14.5 mpg in the Z-71
wonder what its gonna get in the H3

What year was your Z71? Mine was a 2002 and it ran like a swiss watch. Best V8 I ever owned. Lots of balls towing and the best mileage I ever got- about 13 city but 18.5 and 73mph and over 20 at 60mph. I have heard there was a "piston slap" problem with some 5.3's. Everyone I know did'nt have a problem. It was real hard to trade it in for an H3 with an I5.
The members on this forum helped me make that decision by saying how much they loved their trucks. After 4 pick-ups in a row it was time for a change- so far so good.
I wouldn't worry about the motor in the new Alpha, I'd worry about the overall engineering of the drive train, suspension, weight distrubution, ect. If the GM engineers get it right , it will be a great vehicle.
However,I do have 1 concern. I don't think you'll be able to touch one for under 50K. Maybe much more than that.
I guess for some people on this forum, that's not an issue.
Every vehicle has to evolve, it's a step in the right direction . Looking foward to seeing them on the road.

kild1, it had 62k on it in 5 years, great truck, but it was time for a change. I try not to keep anything for 120k ,I wouldn't expect to keep my H3 that long.

i bought it used w/ 148k on her
i sold my yota that i bought new in 93 she had 256k  on her when i sold it
i needed a bigger truck is the only reason i got rid of the yota
as far as the Z  the slap is the only complaint  i have w/  it
i plan on puttin 250k + on the Z  if she holds up that long
i drive the old joints and buy the new ones for the wife to ride
we have been married  for 6 years  and she has had a new PT cruiser, new jeep liberty,
new 06 H3 and now a new 07H3x

Personaly... I can't wait to set my AZZ In the new H3 Alpha at the Dealers lot late this summer, I'll be the first taking it for a test drive in my area!!! Heh
As for the price... The H3x goes for $58,000+ here in CAN, so I can imagine the Alpha will fetch a good $64,000+ easily!!! Might as well buy an H2

I was going to trade my 06 for a 07.  Thinking of waiting for the Alpha H3.  GM emailed me saying they don't know what kinda of gas mileage the Alpha gets.  BS...  lol come on.   Anyone have a clue what kind of gas mileage it gets?  Is it true that it starts at $49,000.00?  if it is rated at 12mpg and its 50k i think I will get a 07.

Gas mileage should be the same or better, and no clue on pricing.  They wouldn't price it so close to the H2 (although the H2s price is going up in 08)...so 49,000 sounds very VERY high to me.

I agree with you about one thing Hummer Guy... Fuel milage would stay the same If not alot better IMO!!! As for the price, I do believe It will be In the $60,000+ range here In Canada anyway. Our local HUMMER Stealership has a loaded H3x for $58,135 CDN. So I can't see the Introductory Alpha going for a just couple of grand more than the H3x especialy with It having a V8 right now.
Although I can see the price of all I5's drop by at least $5,000 across the board, In order to keep the Alpha's price tag attractive to I would hope $60,000 or less In the following years to come. I even see the H2's phasing out due to a huge drop In sales, future fuel costs, Gov pressure on taxing Large SUV's, and the popularity of the H3's new V8 Engine!!! (I hope all you H2 guys don't hate me for saying this... I'm just speculating here!!!) Heck... I even see the I5's gone and being replaced with a V6 as a base model, V8 standard for Adv Pckg, and the H3x replaced with the Alpha Badge.which would drasticly bring down the value of older H3's  making them very hard to sell or trade In the future.....
Hmmmmm...... Anybody wanna buy a loaded 06 H3??? LoL

Just my 2 Cents folks
