Hey everyone. I am going to buy new tires for my H3. I am really looking at Mickey Thompson MTZ size 35's. I'm just wondering if they are good for all the differnt weather we have here in Jersey. Snow, rain, sleet, hail and so on. Any info or opions, or if I should look at a different tire would really help. Thanks....

I have the 35" Baja MTZ's on my H2 and I've been very pleased with them ... one thing you should be aware of though, they are louder than the stock tires ... should be a rather obvious thing considering the threads :-) As far as how they handle weather .. haven't had any hydroplaning issues with them in the rain, no real problem in sleet either. I took my H2 through 1.5-2 feet of snow this past winter and had no real issues either ... got stuck once when it got real deep but nothing a little common sense didn't fix!

When I went to order some M/T's recently, the salesman tried to steer me from them and back to an A/T tire. He said that they were horrible for street driving in rain/snow. His exact quote was "the first time you're on a wet road.....you're going sideways." I'm going to have the truck both on & off-road, so what's the best choice while still having a rather aggressive tread pattern?

In Jersey..?? I'd recommend the ones that hold up from spike strips... I'm running BFG MT's.. No wet road problems...

Not sure what your sales person was smoking at the time but I'm guessing it wasn't a Marlboro. It sounds he has no first hand experience at all with these tires or they were mounted on a 2WD truck and driven on ice .. those statements simply aren't true! I will however say I don't agree with Impy in them being very quiet but that's me. I think they sing a little bit more than stock at highway speeds, well, quite a bit actually. This of course being just my own perception so ... but nothing the stereo won't be able to "fix" for you :-)

I got the MTZ'S and love them. Up north here we can go from snow to rain in 10 minutes and have yet to slide sideways.

I've seen muds with and without them. He must have thought all muds didn't have them. My H3 is in route to the dealer right now, so I want to find something soon and get those P-tires off when I pick it up! ! !

Regardless of his reasons he has no business potentially leading a customer down the wrong road just because he's clueless .. If you are going to speak for/against a product .. at least have SOME grounds to stand on ... As far as getting the MTZ's I think it was Impy that hooked me up with a tire place up north (northern ohio) ... I paid $848 shipped 2 day for a set of 35's ... excellent customer service too!

If there's an interest in these I got mine from Jordan Tire and you can reach them at 1-866-492-1511 ... came highly recommended from Impy and I'll have to agree with him .. I'll be going back here for all my tire needs from here on. Excellent customer service, great people to deal with, fast shippin, and of course the ever so important pricing ... couldn't find em any cheaper anywhere else ... Note, she did tell me they were going up in price when I bought mine. If anyone gets a set I'd be real interested in seeing what they run now .. mine were $175 a piece I believe ...

Toyo Open Country MT. Very quiet for an MT, great on-road handling, and they wear nicely. They're siped so they're good on wet roads/snow/ice. And they're excellent offroad.

Impy, yep, agreed ... valid points! My initial thought was they were slightly louder than stock .. however I personally don't see it as much of an issue. The singing or drone they give off is actually rather soothing :-)
