I curently own a Chevy Tahoe and tow a Boat or trailer. The max weight on either is 4300 lbs. Tows great but getting old and the Hummer is very cool soooo. Does anyone have any experience towing with the H3?? They quote 4500 lbs. I typically don't tow in mountainous areas, but distance is a factor. We travel back and forth to North Carolina with the boat a couple of times a year. Pretty flat terrain but 12 hrs is a distance and I want to feel secure. Thanks for any input.

I went from a tahoe to an h3 and tow a 22' Gambler dual console twice a week with it....no problems at all. The h3 tows better than the tahoe IMO, not as much power but the rear has zero sag in the h3 where the tahoe had a few inches of butt droop

Thanks for replying Importkiller. I finally figured out how to search on this forum and found some answers, but yours was exactly our senario!! The salesman said that the 06's had less horsepower than the 07's, so hopefully that has been addressed.

the 07's only have less than 20 more hp than the 06....a little more oomph but not up to the hp of the 350 in the tahoe. Still it does fine with no real problems at all. My trips are from central NJ to Lake Hopatcong in northern NJ, it's about an hour and a half drive and in really hilly mountainous grades...tought tow conditions in any truck....I have never had my h3 get hot or even start to get really warm. If you are towing for 5 hours or more on trips I woud add an aftermarket trans cooler to be safe.

I towed a trailer at or above 4500 lbs to hunting camp. For a total of 900 miles. I kept my speed at 60 to 64 mph. The trans will drop down a gear on steep or long grades. The best way I found to drive the truck loaded is NOT to use the cruse control. If you see a grade coming up increase your speed a little. If I remember right we averaged about 12 mph with it. It will not pull like my 2500. But it makes a good tow vehicle if you take you time and let it do the work at its own pace.

I normally tow above 70 mph...on rt. 80 in NJ you will get killed if you keep it under 70. I just shift down to 3rd when I see a grade coming or if I need to make a pass or something. I was very surprised at how well it tows.
