I thought they were strictly cosmetic.  What are you going to put over them?

The only thing that I would thin those holes would do is allow air to get to the engine; however, there's enough space with the upper grill to allow air to pass.  You should be fine and I think your idea is good.  Make sure youpost some pics when you do it!

Just keep an eye on the temp guage after you cover them.  The other thing that you could do is paint the hole area a flat black and I think then that it would all just blend in.  Also IMO if you paint the holes sanoma red they will just stand out even more.  Another thought is some of the chrome trim thats being sold on ebay.  I bought some to put behind my grill but its to damn cold to spend that much time outside yet.  This stuff that I'm taking about is a fine chrome mesh, and it sells for about ten bucks which I think included shiping.

By the way, that top photo looks kind a familiar for some reason. humm  LOL

Two questions:

Did you get that bad boy spritzed up yet?

Did you have to add anything to the paint in order for it to adhere to the plastic?

yeah i got  it done  but you can see the sanding marks  where i sanded the plastic
to make the paint stick
so im redoing it and sanding it in stages with different  grits  to get the marks out
it should be done today
if it turns out good  im going to do  the side pieces also
