not worth the money IMO. The light output can't be that great with those little lights.

RutDogg -> RE: SMA Light Bar (1/31/2007 8:50:57 PM)

I can't seem to find any info regarding the light output.

importkiller -> RE: SMA Light Bar (1/31/2007 9:03:00 PM)

even if they are 300 watt lights, the lens size and shape would limit the light shape and output. Don't see how they could be as good as say 4 6x9 PIAA or KC's.

Probably is the same configuration as this one....

PLUS ONE ROOF MOUNTED LIGHT BAR (formerly known as XTC)

SKU: P1-601/P1-603

This light bar uses four PIAA H3 55watt = 110watt XTRA Xtreme White lights.

New to the site, this is my first post.  I just installed the rear light bar and am very disappointed with the output.  I wired them directly to the backup lights and was wandering if running them off their own switch directly from the battery would change the output/brightness?

Gunner_45 -> RE: SMA Light Bar (2/18/2008 5:23:48 PM)

4 X 55 Watts (220) / 12v = 18.33 amp draw     (someone check my math please)

Does the wire gauge for the backup lights match the feed to the light bar?

Personally, I'd put 'em on their own circuit with heavy gauge wire and their own switch.

(I'm sure the people behind you in the Cost Co parking lot would appreciate that)

If the above math is correct, you should be running a minimum of 12 awg (10 awg for long runs) wire and a 20 amp fuse.

saywhat -> RE: SMA Light Bar (2/18/2008 5:51:12 PM)

Well I have the front and back and Love the look! Are they as bright as 4 KC lights? no! They are about 3 times as bright as the regular head lights on a dark road. And the rear light up the back big time. I would never wire them to the backup lights because your going to piss someone off!! Big Time! Its nice if someone follows to close to hit the switch and they back off Quickly!

I have the front one also and really like the look but am also disappointed with the light output. Sure it lights up the hood a lot so it seems like its doing something but if you look at your head light beam and then turn them on I don't seem much a difference on the road. Mountainbiker maybe you can tell us how you aim yours. Also just having them on without the head lights, they don't seem to be all that great.

H3 Hummer 64 -> RE: SMA Light Bar (2/18/2008 6:10:45 PM)

Whoops I meant Saywhat not Mountainbiker. Saywhat can you tell me how you aimed your front bar? Also if you get a chance can you get a picture from inside your truck of the light output. Maybe one shot with just your head lights and one with your head lights and SMA bar. That way I can compare.

I'm not really sure. I got mine on ebay. It was a display model at a hummer dealership. I've had if for about a month or so now.

flyfish -> RE: SMA Light Bar (2/18/2008 7:53:27 PM)

Yeah the factory wire is like 14 or 16 I would say, while the bar is 12.  I changed the fuse to a 30amp. though.  I was thinking of tying the rear bar in to my piaa driving lights and maybe using a bigger fuse.  Think that would be any brighter?  Honestly, don't care much about the people in parking lots, but I would like to be able to flash tailgaters.  I just want them as bright as possible.

flyfish -> RE: SMA Light Bar (2/20/2008 8:14:12 PM)

You guys probably wont believe this, but I got my rear sma bars on ebay brand new for $300 with shipping included.  Thats the only reason I got them, seeing as how the lowest price I have seen was $600.  I was holding out for a rack where I could mount rear lights, but I couldnt pass it up.  After moving my factory cross bars up and spacing them evenly, its almost as goos as a rack.  The best thing about the sma bar is its stabiltiy, I was impressed.
