I saw the same thing happen to the 'Power Pole'/'Outlaw Canyon' area located in East Bakersfield during my 'off-road' motorcycle riding days. Today, much of that land is covered with newer upscale homes, shopping centers, and a freeway. 'The Badlands' (a once well-known 'off-road' recreational area) formerly located Southeast of Riverside, CA, has been developed into golf courses with upscale single-family homes. I've now seen the same thing happen to the desert area east of Palm Springs, as each year we see more and more residential housing developments, golf courses, and shopping centers, and even the organized 'tree huggers' are having a very hard time trying to preserve their share. Fortunately, Anza-Borrego is a state park with over five hundred miles of roadway. Most of the dirt roads in the park are for 4-wheel drive vehicles. Some the roads present a real challenge for even for the more experienced off road drivers, most however, are easily handled by any 4X4 street legal vehicle.
