just wanted to start a new thread on gas, everything i've been reading today says that katrina will drive prices at the pump well over $3 nationwide. we're already close here in ca now, and diesel already tips over. is there any chance that the gulf oil industry can get back on line quickly, and if so will the big petroleum companies really drop prices back to where we are today? seems to me that it will be like a california earthquake relief tax. i can't remember one of the .25% sales tax increases ever going away after their required time frame.

Patrick, this topic forum also states "Upload requires at least 0 posts." under the text box, so whatever your fix was on the H2 forum, this may need it as well. not that any of you want to see my "off topic" pictures . . . . .

I wonder the same thing. I dont believe it can go much higher with out REALLY hurting major transportation companys.

I just locked in my winter oil rate for heating here in NH @ $2.35 a gallon , it is expected to go uo dramatically this winter.

It seems with every unfortunate disaster in this country its always an excuse to raise fuel prices or some tax!

What is that winter heating oil? I hear it a lot in the news, but don't know how you use it. Do you have a central heater and you pour that in somewhere in there? Maybe I'm ignorant because here in Laredo, there's practically so such thing as winter!

heating oil is what's used in the boiler to heat the water for the baseboard/radiator heaters. we had the same thing in PA before we had natural gas added to the house, around the time of the lines at the pumps. get a big ole' truck in the driveway with the hose running into the basement. i had an oil fed boiler in greece in the mid-80's, the pain was trying to figure out when to get it refilled, they didn't have a gauge on it. we don't have much of a winter here in Sacramento either, but we can always drive for an hour to hit the snow if we want.

Okay, gasoline here just jumped 60 cents a gallon overnight from $2.39 to $2.99. It'll hit $4.00 pretty soon, according to the news.

early 40's, and it's just a really cool word. i mentioned that i remember the gas lines from the 70's . . . and i remember what heating oil was used for . . . .

paid 2.76 this morning on the way in, but i was on a conf. call the whole way home so didn't remember to see how high it had gone during the day.

I was only ribbing you, shortbus, hope you didn't mind.
the Diamond shamrocks and some citgos rolled back the price down to 2.79. Wonder for how long.

not a problem, i get much worse since i actually say it a lot, skin's grown thick over my pennsyltuckian quotes, accent and such here in the "golden" state. local station was at 2.91 this morning, but it was still dark so they were probably waiting for the sun to come up to change it. highest i've seen yet here in the valley is 2.99 for 87 octane, so we're not getting raped yet. here's a pic of our switch in N'awlins, i'm hoping it's just a 2 story building.
