The new steering wheel grasping positions are now 9 and 3 since the Airbag system came out...Otherwise the 10 & 2 position would have a tendency you break your wrists when nthe air bag deployed..

If you want to talk about bad driving habits..talk to those countless assholes driving around with a cell phone stuck in their goddamn ear...Now that really pisses me off!!!

Whew! I feel better now

I got one better for you .. and to all you ladies here I apologize in advance if this one is offensive, it certainly is not intended to be but  ... How about these young girls putting on make up on the freeway!?!?  The only consilation I have is the fact that sooner or later they will hit a pothole and stab themselves in the eyeball with that @#$%!@#$% pen!!!  On the flip side I've seen the same guy in a LandRover reading the news paper on the same freeway ... WTF is wrong with people these days!?

Cell phones I have no problems with .. when they are in the cup holder and not f*cked with then driving.  If you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO yak in it .. get a damn headset at least :/  I personally don't answer mine anymore if I'm on the road .. if I can even hear it over the stereo LOL!

Personally I prefer the 8/4 positions on the wheel if I'm on the freeway ..

I have seen a lot of stupid things on the freeways. I have seen people change thier clothes. The girl in the green convertable with the top down was the best. She finally figured out what was going on about the time she got her bra back on and realised she was surrounded by 3 trucks. I have seen lewd acts, people eating, the bowl of cereal was by far the worst, the afore mentioned makeup application, and removal, the use of cell phones to no end, and the list goes on. What I find most interesting about this topic is everybody has a complaint about something, typically the cell usage, but who actually thinks of this when they are doing it, or have changed thier habits accordingly?

cops are tough on cell phone users here. You see cars bieng pulled over all the time for it. It's like a $250 fine if you get caught talking on a phone while driving.

I don't own a cell phone..so I know I'm not guilty of that...I have the POS built in car phone in the HUMMER that is as worthless as tits on a bore hog...You have to be standing still in an open parking lot just to get a call out or coming in..then if you manage to get the connection, the conversation is all broken up coming from me to the listener..with a terrible echo...Yes it has been checked out and all seems fine as I'm told..just our cell tower reception in my OKC area......Oh well, it expires here in a few months, so no loss.

Do the fines actually make people change thier behavior, or just make them complain about cops more

Cell phones are one thing but have you seen these half wits who actually try to text while driving!?!!?!  Holy hell .. some of those folks need a good 3 lanes worth of room cuz they are so detatched from what they are doing ...
Personally I think they should up the fine to an even $1,000 dollars and a suspension of the license for 30 days ... pull the hell over or handle whatever crap requires a phone when you get home .. sheeeeeeeesh

actually I think it makes some people change, I know I have. Others won't change for anything and would rather pay the fine. I actually saw a cop sitting in a toll booth on the turnpike, when a car would pull up to pay the toll he would look to see if there was a phone bieng used and he would have you pull over after the toll to another cop waiting to write the ticket. There was more than 10 cars lined up on the side of the road when I passed them.

Dennis, your cell tower must really blow! I use my onstar phone all the time and never have a problem. The voice recognition for saying "call home" or whatever is awesome too. Guess there is one advantage to living in the armpit of America

I programmed mine with the windows down while drving so that the backround noise would be higher than just sitting still. I have never had it tell me to repeat or to slow down.

You guys would absolutely HATE living down here (south FL) because EVERYONE and I do mean almost everyone drives with a cellphone glued to their ear! I know some day hubby will have to bail me out of jail because some idiot has hit me while yakkin on their phone totally oblivious to their surroundings and I will have shoved that cellphone up their (_(_)!!   I do use mine occasionally while driving (hazzard of my profession), but ONLY with the headset.  I wish FL would pass a law on that! My OnStar phone works fairly well, but I use it minimally because I cannot use it with my cell provider (Nextel) so I am saving those free minutes until they are about to expire anyway.

With some luck they will get hit on the side, slame cell phone AND head in to side window ... think of the benefits here .. they would never have to hold it again .. it would be embedded in their stupid heads, PROBLEM SOLVED!  Very crude but at least potentially effective hands free solution ...

Yeah man.  My On-Star cell reception is awsome.  I can talk under bridges, in the worst weather, out in the boonies, and never EVER get static, drop a call, get garbles voices, nothing.  They say the On-Star reception for cell service is 4 times greater then a standard cell phone.  Speaking from experience I can tell you that is absolutely true.  That's what you get for living up there in the boonies  But if you have no use for it, who cares.
