When I stayed at the hospital for 2 days in November, they wanted to give me breathing treatments and other things ORDERED by a Doctor who never even saw me until an hour before I was released. I refused the treatments. I came in for severe dehydration and nausea, not breathing problems. I had quickly mentioned I had asthma a few days before, but that was the first time in maybe 2 years. They took that as I couldn't breath. I was a little pissed off. After explaining this to 3 different nurses, I still had someone 3 times come in my room wanting to stick a tube down my throat. After hearing the horror stories from my wife's mother who works at a hospital, I believe these statistics. It's a shame that there are so many great doctors out there but it only takes a few to give the entire practice a bad name in the eyes of skeptics.

Well so am I. I have had the same doctor since I was 2. I first had her when she started at my hometown hospital as a resident. Now 28 years later she still has her own practice with her husband and is able to know exactly what's wrong with someone before she even sees them. She is the only one that was able to fix my wife when other doctors had no clue what to do. That's why I still take the 40 mile drive to go see her. Even after the hospital stay when I told her what happened, she told me the reason I was so bad was because I was given antibiotics that were way too strong for me, and my immune system is pretty damn good. I also am paranoid about hospitals, but who isn't these days.

First. Dilo I'm very sad to hear about your father. Everyone of my grandparents died as a result of a medical error. Whether it was a misdiagnosis or just plain mistake. My dad, who fortunately is still alive, was diagnosed with allegies and was being treated for over 1 year for allergies, until he started coughing up blood and they then realized that it was lung cancer. Yes those stats are true and I'm personally quite ashamed. However, one must also look at the other side. How many people would have died without doctors. Most of the rules and concepts that I practice today are significantly different than what I had learned in school. Why? The body didn't change, but our knowledge did. I remember a professor stating in class one time that by the time we take the final exam, some of the info is already outdated! The body is extremely complex. I personally have 12 years of college and I only know a portion of what I specialize in let alone other areas. We are only human, but we have come forth to do the very best that we can to try to help. It takes a significant amount of time, money, stress, and long hours. Believe me, no doc wants to injury or kill anyone, but at least we have the courage to step up to the plate and do our best to try to help.

And that is why I still go to the same one I have had for 28 years. Mark and Monster, I feel quite ignorant in not seeing what you both wrote. I'm also sorry to hear about that. Like I said, it only takes a few to put paranoia in many. I did, however, go to a new doctor before I got sick. He is the same doctor two weeks prior that I brought my wife to. She has had certain personal issues that absolutely no doctor can figure out with her skin, but that's another story. Anyway, he reminded me of my doctor. He is very good and diagnosing problems, which made me come to the conclusion that alot of diagnosis, as in any profession, is common sense. I will say this now and until the day I do, either you have it, or you don't, and there is no learning it. If you can't figure things out very well, you shouldn't be doing things that play with people's lives. Learning theories and science from books can't teach you common sense. You can be the most book educated person in this world, but if you have absolutely no common sense, I'll be damned if you are going to touch me. Like anything in life, there are the good, and the bad, and even though the good can be 99% of any certain thing, that 1% of the bad is what people usually look at and judge. I try not to be this way in my life, but sometimes you can't help but think about it and wonder if there are more of the bad of something then you realize. That being said, people can't be blamed for their paranoia when it is about things that have personally affected them. I sure don't. If anything happened to my wife because of malpractice, would I be paranoid as hell? I sure would. I would never want to even look at another doctor, but I know that would be ignorant of me to think that way, but sometimes you can't help the way you feel. That is the way the world is unfortunately.
Now, give me a drink or something. I think I just slipped into a state of depression

It's amazing I work for a lawfirm. I guess that's why they love me, cuz I'm SO unpredictable (when I'm not sleeping)....
