The more you talk about it the more pissed I get at whoever your doctor and lawyer were.

Mike, you don't know the half of it!!  The lawyer has been dis-barred, But because my two year statute was up I couldn't go after the Doctor anymore, just the lawyer. But I guess the lawyer got a pretty good pay-off cause he left the country never to be heard from again. I had a P.I. try to track him down and found a trace of him in the caribbean but never could find him, and I couldn't afford to keep paying. The doctor did get fired from the practice he was at and has since opened his own down the street, amazingly it gets egged quite often....what can I say, I hold a grudge

IK, no way do I take offence to it.  Dilo's stats are true.  Actually I think that their higher.  I read in the JAMA mag once that the same amount of people die EVERYDAY from med errors as 2 fully loaded 747 jumbo jet crashes.  It's fuked up big time.  I take absolutely no offence what so ever and you most certainly need not apologize.  I did just have a patient of mine die.  It wasn't because of me though.  She was killed in an auto accident here in Pittsburgh.  The burgh guys may have heard it on the news.  She was the teenager that goes to CanonMac.  Bums me out.

First.  Dilo I'm very sad to hear about your father.  Everyone of my grandparents died as a result of a medical error.  Whether it was a misdiagnosis or just plain mistake.  My dad, who fortunately is still alive, was diagnosed with allegies and was being treated for over 1 year for allergies, until he started coughing up blood and they then realized that it was lung cancer.  Yes those stats are true and I'm personally quite ashamed.  However, one must also look at the other side.  How many people would have died without doctors.  Most of the rules and concepts that I practice today are significantly different than what I had learned in school.  Why?  The body didn't change, but our knowledge did.  I remember a professor stating in class one time that by the time we take the final exam, some of the info is already outdated!  The body is extremely complex.  I personally have 12 years of college and I only know a portion of what I specialize in let alone other areas.  We are only human, but we have come forth to do the very best that we can to try to help.  It takes a significant amount of time, money, stress, and long hours.  Believe me, no doc wants to injury or kill anyone, but at least we have the courage to step up to the plate and do our best to try to help.

Same thing happened with my Dad. He was DIAGNOSED with allergies because of all the headaches he was getting....Long story short...Brain Tumor!!! By the time they figured it out. he was riddled with cancer and passed away just over a year ago!!

My Mom was diagnosed with IBS(irritle bowel syndrome), then after 6 months of it getting worse, they said "OH...You Have Gallstones". While being in the hospital to get her gallbladder removed, they came to her room and said..."Geez, ya know, your gallbladder is fine, but you have in-operable PANCREATIC Cancer!!!" She passed away 4 months and a day before my Dad!!  FUKING DOCTORS!!! If they would have caught EITHER of these EARLIER......

I'm not saying that I'm better than other doctors.  Well maybe I am, but the point is that both my brother and I are physcians.  We both have had horrible things happen to our family because of either arrogance, lack of skill, or simply just they really don't care.  Both my brother and I have vowed to absolutely do our very best with every patient we have.  That person is someones mom, dad, sibling, or grandparent and people love them.  Patient's and their families are so vunerable in these situations.  We understand this.  I remember a story that my Paul, my bro, told me once about one of his patients.  She was an older lady who was terminal and really was only expected to live a few more hours.  She was conscious and aware.  Needless to say, she was very scared.  This women had no family around, so my brother sat with her holding her hand through the night until she passed.  See we both no what it's like to have this happen to us personally.    But then again that's how our parent's raised us.

Now you are scaring me a little.  My wife has been getting headaches lately.  She usually gets them if she doesn't eat enough during the day, but every doctor says she is not Diabetic.  She takes Tylonol, and sometimes it work, sometimes it doesnt, more so it doesn't then it does.  If she eats something, it goes away, but not always.  When I read things like this, I think, man I need to take her in, but then again, I could be just paranoid.  She's just one of those people that just has to have enough food in them at all times or else she feels like crap.  The funny thing is she's only 5'1 and 115 lbs.  Anyway, my feeling is, it's better to be paranoid then have someone tell you "it's too late".  I'm still trying to decide whether it justifies having her go see somebody about it.

Yeah I keep telling her that.  She starts working again this week so once she has 3 meals a day in her I'm going to see if she still gets them.  If she does, I'm forcing her to go to the Doctor and get it scheduled.  It's just been one thing after another this past couple of months.  Hopefully it's nothing.

I wouldn't worry.  I get the same way as do many people I know.   Just last summer I personally developed severe migraines.  My neighbor at home is a neurosurgeon.  He checked me out and I'm fine.  In most cases these symptoms subside and are in fact benign.  With today's insurance without medical necessity, their not going to pay for an MR or CT.  My recommendation is for her to eat.  If it doesn't go away, then make an apt with your PCP.  One thing that I'm oppossed to is the use of meds to mask symptoms.  If there's a symptom there may be a problem.  Maybe her's is simply not eating.  See one does not have to be diabetic to have symptoms from a decreased blood glucose level.  If the sypmtoms persist, DO NOT simply allow them to medicate her.  When I'm hungry, I turn into even a bigger dik than I usually am!
