 First off, let me just say that this is a awesome site.[8|]    I have been lurking around the forum for a month or two and have picked up all sorts of valuable information about the H3. I've had mine now for a little over 10 months and have put over 16,000 miles on it with no problems to speak of.
I really want to put some wheels and tires on my H3, but I'm nervous about making the wrong decision. What I really want are the Helo Maxx 6 wheels and a  set of Nitto Mud Grappler tires. Here is where the problem lies. I want to go with at least 18" wheels. My first thought was to go with 18" x 9"  6-5.5 with + 18 offset Helo Maxx 6 with 33-12.50-18R Nitto Mud Grapplers.  But then I saw a set of  20" x 10" Helo Maxx 6 with Nitto Mud Grapplers in 33-12.50 -20R on Ebay. I realize most of you guy are running your stock rims with 35" MTZ's. Any thoughts, suggestions, or comments would be appreciated.[8D]  I worry about a rubbing issue. Also, I have not done it yet but plan to crank my T-bars 3 turns to level the truck out.  Thanks

you will not rub at all, but the tire will stick out of the fender some. Stock offset is +38, the closer go you towards zero the more the rim moves towards the fender, the further positive you go from zero the closer to the control arm the rim moves. By going to +18 you will be moving the rim away from the control arms towards the fender, eliminating the chance of any rubbing.

The rims your looking at are 10" wide so you have to look at backspacing too. If your backspacing is around 5-6 you'll be ok, if it's more than 6" you may rub.

I have 17x8.5 with +12 offset on mine which will stick out more than yours and have no problems at all

Thanks Importkiller for your response. I was hoping that I would get a response from you since you seem really knowledgeable about tire and rim fit. I think I've decided to go the 18 x 9 route. That way there is more sidewall and the rims are 1" narrower allowing for more protection of the rim itself. Has anybody run the Mud Grapplers that you know of. I am wondering how much noise they make. I understand that the MTZ's are fairly quite.

alot of guys are running the mud grapplers and I haven't read a complaint. They say they are quiet. I know a few months back they were near impossible to find in stock, if it's the same now..good luck!![:D]

I purchased my Hummer with wheels and tires from the dealer.  The wheels are 20" and came with the Nitto tires.  I'm pretty sure they are 33's.  The only problem I have had is when I installed the Rancho lift is that the offset was not enough and I had to add spacers.  If you ever plan on lifting make sure you get the correct offset.  I have been told that I can now put 35's on and still will not scrub.  The only problem with that is that it will not fit in the garage.

that makes no sence at all. Lifting doesn't change your hub to control arm distance, why would they rub after installing the lift? If he is going with a less positive offset wheel than stock it will push the rim oway from the control arms and towards the fender...doesn't matter what lift is put on a +12 or +18 offset rim will not rub! And you could put 35's on a stock h3 with no lift and still not rub...even with stock rims!

if you could do your tires over , would you still have choosen everthing the same way you did ?

I like the look of your tire set up , I have the hummer chrome wheels also.
With the 35's and raising your TB , how much higher does your H3 sit over stock ?

If I wanted the same tire set up as you , what would I order ? What would be your recommendation to make them stick out a little further with out buying new wheels.

Okay I have the tire sizes wrong. I have 35's on there now I can put 37's.   My wife drives the H3.  The offset on the wheels was a 5.5 and  Rancho lifts require a 5.0.  That is why I had to do the spacers.  Sorry about that.

I don't have the stock Chrome wheels, I have 17" Detata rims. I'll post a better pic of the rims here.

If I had it to do all over again I would probably probably get the same thing I have now. Or I might go with a bigger tire....with some minor cutting I know I can clear a 36.

If you want your stocker rim to stick out more just go with a spacer I had to put them on my Tahoe due to rubbing issues and they worked great for over 50,000 miles without any signs of failure.

Everything I've heard about the rancho lift so far seems to make no sense.  It lifts but the clearance numbers seem like they go down from stock.  I don't have the link anymore but I remember looking at that first review when it came out and they actually lost articulation also.  Poor design or is this somehow common for a lift?

it probably lowers the front diff in order to keep the cv-joint angles near stock, so you are gaining tire clearance but the diff is staying the same or lowering some even, so you are losing ground clearance.

Here's a couple photos of a H3 the dealer in my area was selling. It has 35 x12.5R18s Mudd grapplers, pretty narly looking. If you'll notice they haven't lifted the front so those tires rubbed like hell. In fact when I brought in my H3 for alignment, this guy that was there shopping around actually took it for a test drive. As soon as they pulled out of the lot he cranked the wheel to turn and all you could here was the sound of grinding fender wells! LOL! The guy eventually bought it, I bet they didn't offer to crank his torsions for him[:D] Nice wheel set up though, I believe the rims were Welds but they had a low offset so the tires stick out at least 3 inches!

Time to ditch the Dana 60’s and find some Rockwell axles. NTWOnline is showing pictures of the recently built Interco 19.5 x 54 x 20 Bogger. "Monstrous" is the only word to describe these tires! In the comparison photo, the smallest tire pictured is a 44" Bogger. These tires will be DOT approved for highway usage. The only problem is that the amount of lift required to run these will leave most trucks unable to meet most areas' street legal requirements.
