champipple -> back up camera (12/31/2006 8:54:29 AM)

I used to lift the back gate on the cherokee to hitch up the trailer, can't do that so much with a swinging gate on the hummer, so I aske santa for a back up cam. Anyone have any tips or tricks to make this easier than the packaging declares before I short circut the hum?

If you have the OEM Hummer navigation system, then just do as I did and have your local Hummer dealer add a color back-up camera system to your OEM navigation unit. This integrated system works great (day and night) and allows for a much larger screen than what's usually found with most aftermarket add-on systems. Photos of my installed system can be viewed in some other threads within this same section.

What year is your H3 ?  What navigation/ stereo system do you have?  I would like to do this Mod. to my 2007 H3 when I purchase it in the weeks to come.

If you get the factory NAV, there are several aftermaket solutions for adding a backup camera, but these guys seem to make a real slick one. http://www.coastaletech.com/GMLOCKPICK.htm , then all you need to do is add the actual camera.

That coastaletech GMlockpick product is really cool.  I am a recently new owner of an 07 H3 (will post some pics soon) and I hope to get this product to allow DVDs to play and also enable a back up cam.  Does anyone know whether this product will work in combination with the Nucleus (sp?) Ipod integration product?  Thanks to all for all of the detailed info.  This is a great forum and I plan to become a contributor.  -Jeff

even if you don't have a navigation unit hooking up a backup camera to a screen is a snap. what exactly do you need to know?

Which camera is the best to use?

importkiller -> RE: back up camera (3/11/2007 10:37:13 PM)

depends if you want to drill a hole to mount it or if you want to use a licent plate frame type camera. The pic. quality is actually very good on the licence plate frame camera, and they are cheap.
