jm4490 -> torsion adj.. (12/28/2006 7:53:06 AM)

So I went back and read alot of the posts about torsion adj. to level out the trucks look. I want to know after alot of you have done this and have driven the truck for a while is there any change in the ride/handling?? I just have this horrible idea in my head of when i had my gmc jimmy i had my torsion bars cranked up so i could get a little more clearance in the front end and the ride went to Holy Hell ! I was bouncing all over the road..I just don't want to feel like the in a new ride with only 700 mi on it..

I cranked mine 2 1/2 turns and don't really notice any difference in the ride at all.

I did the same as far as reading many responses. I raiesed mine 2.5 rounds each side as it almost level. I did notice a slightly harder ride in the front but not bad. My wife couldn't notice a change. I did have an alignment and was out quite a bit.

your ride will get a little firmer, if your Jimmy was bouncing all over the road your t-bars were probably worn out and or you were maxed out on your shock travel.

There is nothing worse than a maxed worn out Jimmy !![:D]

I just cranked my t-bars this past Saturday (well, not me, but the place that I got my new tires from). It was late in the afternoon nearing closing, so they were kinda rushing. I wish the guy kept track of how many times he turned it, but he was using an impact wrench and were 'going by eye' until there was enough clearance for the 35s. I'm assuming it was anywhere between 2.5 - 3 turns. The driver side needed a little more to even out. The ride did get a lot stiffer, but the wifey just assumed it was because of the tires. She really digs the beefy look with the new tires so she sort of accepted it. I took it in to align on Tuesday and it was way off. The dealer had a hard time getting the computers to sink with the sensors. There claim was because of the height of the new tires? 5 hours later it was done w/ specs in hand[:'(]. Also contributing to the rough ride is that the tires were inflated to 50lbs each. I dropped it to 35 and it helped a little, still too rough for me so I ordered a truxxx kit yesterday, it will be here next Wednesday. Too many potholes around here so I felt I had no other option[:-]

used an impact gun on a t-bar adj. bolt?!?!?!  I would guess you are wayyy over 3 turns if thats the case. Plus the ride with 3 turns isn't even noticably different. I assume he cranked the t-bars so much that you are maxxed out on shocks and probably sitting on the bumpstop. BTW...35's WILL clear without any t-bar lift or relocation keys....bone stock will clear a 35" tire with no problems.

make sure to get another alignment once you install the truxx lift too.

naluboy -> RE: torsion adj.. (12/28/2006 8:31:32 PM)

yeah, I was kind of questioning why he was using an impact.[sm=WTFsgign.gif]

btw, I need to give props where props are due. Thanks IK for all the advice on tires in previous threads. I finally picked up the Mickey Thompson MTZ 315/75/16s. A whole lot of sidewall, but I kind of like the beefy look. I guess I'll have to stock up on Mcguires tire dressing, damn I used a whole can. I haven't had a chance to take some pix, weather here is pretty crappy. But I'll get some up eventually[:D]

thanks again[sm=happybounce.gif]

your very welcome......now go get some pics!!!!![:D][:D][:D]

If I recall correctly IK, did you say your tires didn't rub at all? It must be that slight offset of your rims that allows a little more clearance on the inside. My new tires rub, although only when fully cranked on either side. It's rubbing against the sway bar, so nothing that could cause any serious damage. I think[8|]. Because I'm using the stock rims, do you think adding spacers (1/2") to the front rims to push it out a little would eliminate rubbing? I've never used spacers before, does it mess with your alignment?

importkiller -> RE: torsion adj.. (12/29/2006 2:39:53 PM)

stock rims will probably rub with the mickeys, I know a few guys running BFG on stockers and they don't rub at all but the BFG are not as wide as the MTZ's. You can add spacers if you want, I have them on my jeep for this very reason and have had no problems in over 50,000 miles now. I don't think you will need an alignment again as all your doing is pushing the rim towards the fender and not changing the camber or caster.

Hey Nalu,

Any pics of the new beefier H3? Were you just at Pflueger the other day? Man, we have to go on a run real soon!!

naluboy -> RE: torsion adj.. (1/6/2007 1:52:25 AM)

Yo Marc! Yup was there, met up with Brandon. I had to get the new meats before the Feb. run, but definitely would do some trials with da boyz prior[:D]

I'm putting in the Truxxx kit tomorrow so I'll post some pics (weather permitting)...It was pretty stupid to have the thing aligned, only to decide later that I wanted to drop the truxxx kit in it, only to have to align it again!!! what a waste of money! Well, i just hope it's worth it.
