My father-in-law works for GM in buffalo ny, said the inline 4 and inline 5 are being outsourced to a different plant, to make way for the new car engine the inline 3 and the v6 diesal that will be used in the colorado, some full size pickups and the 2008 Hummer h3

It'd better be the V6 diesel in H3, or it would be another waste of time like 3.5L, I5 is.

Hey! Don't knock the inline 3 diesel. I have seen many of them in farm equipment, generators and boat applications. They run great, provide sufficiant power, and get good fuel economy as well. You would be suprised at how much power can be made from a three cylinder.

The Metro's had a 1 liter inline 3. I'm sure the diesel will be somewhat bigger.

I'd love an efficient turbodiesel H3, but not as a guinea pig for GM. They'd be better outsourcing the diesels to some one who knows how to make them well; eg Isuzu.

gm is producing a few diesels but they will be shipped to europe...none are scheduled to be made for Northern America/Canada for the next few years at least.

Izuzu makes the Duramax diesels for GM so if the H3 ever does get a diesel it will be made by them also.

From what I have read GM just doesn't think there is a big enough demand for it. I guess they are right in a way, you have to figure that a diesel will be at least another $5,000 onto the price. Plus Diesel fuel isn't cheaper than gas anymore so most aren't as willing to switch as they were before. Plus with all teh new restrictions coming in diesel emmisions it's tough to even get a diesel that will pass. Jeep has stopped putting the Diesel in the Liberty because it couldn't pass emissions. I honestly believe that they haven't offered a diesel or even an 8 cylinder to this point because it would rewuire a complete change. The front and rear diffs would implode with the added torque, the added weight would require a change of the entire front end suspension. I just think the added cost of changing everything to accomodate a diesel would put the price tag in the same ballpark as the h2.

the h3x is already in the same price range as the h2, I picked up my h2 today, and it was a little over 55,000, the h3x was 44,000 sitting on the floor,

true, but your also talking about a blinged out.. optioned out H3. With a diesel, a base model with just the motor option would be around that....that would blow for alot of people.

Anotehr thing is that if they wanted to make the diesel or v8 an option and still offer the I5 then they would either have to put the same beefed up suspension/diffs that are needed for the new motors in the I5 trucks or make two different platforms.....neither of which I see GM wanting to do right now.
