I was wondering if Amsoil and the rest will meet GM's required specs such as GM4718M and GM6094M like Mobil 1 does ? I just wonder why Mobil 1 is factory fill and recommended by Mercedes AMG, Astom Martin, Porsche, Mc Laren, Viper , Corvette and the SRT 10  and not Amsoil ? Who did the Four Ball Wear test, Amsoil ? As in the case of the Corvette Z06, AMG , Aston Martin, etc -these engines are built by hand, they use the finest components made so they are going to use anything but the best oil? I do not think so.  Again, was the Four Ball test done in Amsoil's lab.?

Amsoil lists that it meets the GM required specs on the label.  As for why Mobil 1 is recommended over Amsoil or some other brand...$$$$$$$$$$.

If anyone leases his or her H3, I wouldn't recommend any synthetic oil unless they planned on buying it. I mean, why waste the extra money for protection if you don't want to own it?

I disagree Jude..Respect for the machine is a religion, no matter what...Seriously, for the couple of dollars more on the synthetic will serve your pocket book well at the gas pumps and over all life of the engine..and who knows, you may end up being the sole owner after all..

Dennis, I do partly agree with you as I did say above, I wouldn't recommend any synthetic oil unless they planned on buying it. If I was leasing, that would mean that I really didn't plan on buying it only to ride an H3 and save the $$$$ or I would have bought it with a Smart Buy deal that GM had.

Do you think a service department would allow you to supply your own oil and filter?

I got my first oil change at around 6500 miles. According to onstar I was at 12% oil life left.

I took my H3 in for the first change so I could see what it would take to change the oil. The service guy let me under the rack to see. I supplied the oil and filter with no complaints. Only was charged the labor--$20. Amsoil reccommends to use an engine flush just prior to the change from regular to synthetic to insure the synthetic will bind ti the parts better.

Hey guys, I'm new to the site, and also a new hummer owner. Have an 07' SUT with just over 6k miles, oil looks great, maybe because most of the miles are highway. Anyways, I installed the magnacharger two nights ago and am ready to change the oil. Is amsoil hard to find? Is it something that can be found at the local walmart or autopart store?

Also, why are you guys changing oil every 3-5k miles, especially when you're running synthetic? Unless you're running supercharged, turbocharged, or towing the family camper very often, you're really wasting money on better oil without taking advantage of its lifespan, say 5-8k miles, safely. 8k miles on synthetic really isn't pushing the envelope, but I wouldn't go past 8k.

In an effort to prove that I am indeed "A veritable Cesspool of Worthless Knowledge" as I have been
accused of on sooooo many occasions....I present to you, AMSOIL: A brief History

I never knew much about the stuff other than it was a synthetic motor oil...Here is a Wiki entry I found on it....

History
AMSOIL INC. was founded by Al Amatuzio (USAF Retired) in 1972. Prior to founding AMSOIL, Amatuzio was a fighter pilot, line maintenance officer, and squadron commander during the Cold War era. Having to use synthetic lubricants in the jet engines he maintained, he became aware of the significant benefits of using synthetic instead of petroleum-based oil.
The company was initially spelled "Amzoil" for "Amatuzio's Oil." It was then changed to AMSOIL. Contrary to popular belief, AMSOIL is not, nor has it ever been a part of or a sister company of Amway. AMSOIL is also not an acronym for "American Synthetic Oil."
In February 1994, Lubricants World magazine honored Amatuzio by inducting him into their "Hall of Fame" as the pioneer in synthetic motor oil.
In August 2005, AMSOIL and its founder, Al Amatuzio, were featured on The History Channel's Modern Marvels documentary "Lube Job" as a visionary and revolutionist in the modern motor oil market.

Corporate Structure
  • President & CEO: Al "A.J." Amatuzio
  • Executive Vice President/General Manager: Dean Alexander (son-in-law of Al)
  • Executive Vice President - Chief Operating Officer: Alan Amatuzio (son of Al)

AMSOIL distributes their products via a MLM-based network comprised of Dealers who sell synthetic lubricants and performance products to wholesale customers (non-dealers - called Preferred Customers), retail accounts and commercial accounts.

Customer Types

Dealer
A Dealer sells products to customers. There are no limitations on being a Dealer, no requirements, quotas or minimums. Currently the cost is $30/year (USD) with no other startup costs. A Dealer, as with all of the following accounts, must be sponsored by another Dealer.

Preferred customers
A Preferred Customer (PC) is someone who wants to purchase AMSOIL products at Dealer price, but is not interested in building a business, nor making a profit on reselling AMSOIL products or sponsoring other accounts. The cost of being a Preferred Customer is $20/year (USD) however there is a one-time 6-month trial membership option for $10/year. This program is comparable to being a member of Sam's Club or Costco. About 20% is shaved off of the MSRP price of AMSOIL product for Dealers and Preferred Customers. Therefore the break-even point to holding a PC account is roughly $100/year.

Retail accounts
Retail-On-The-Shelf Accounts (ROTS) are physical retail outlets such as an independent parts store, repair shop, or oil change shop that carry and retail AMSOIL products. These establishments must be sponsored
