I just got my 06 H3 home from the dealer. Im already figuring out the custom stuff to put on. One item that I need help on is the rear camera for backup. I opted not to have the dealerinstall since they wanted way too much. Can anyone suggest any kits? What have your experience been using it. I drive in to NYC and feel like I am tryingto park a tank (a good one). I have always had trucks so this is not new to me about parking.

easy tiger no need to worry. The stealer [GM] makes a great little device that plugs into your power ports and has 3 lights, they light up when at 10', 5' and 3ft. it's about $350 I'm sure there's aftermarket options out there. Maybe that will help and posibly less than a camera kit pip

champipple - whoa, easy now tiger, I saw an article that said the sensors are not reliable and that there is no substitute for actually seeing the area behind you while backing. Cheaper does not = better or reliable GH

Just bought the wireless version from Wal Mart ($98.00) which has 2.5" color monitior. I don't have all the bugs worked out but it seems ok for the money

Here are a couple of pics of the backup sensor I installed yesterday. It's been 24 hours and I haven't backed into anything! The system is from Crimestopper and is called the "Backstopper Rear Vehicle Impact Warning System". I tried the Walmart camera and wasn't happy with it and returned it. I like this system a lot better. I have several wholesale connections with consumer electronics manufacturers and distributors. Bought this from a distributor of mine. Cost was approx $50.00. Here's a description from their website------------------ Peace of Mind: You can feel safe when putting your vehicle in reverse. Easy Parking: Especially for parallel parking Situations. State-of-the Art Design: Compact size, using the latest ultra-sonic technology. Prevent Accidental Impact: Alerts you to small animals, people or low unseen objects. Rear View Advantage: More accurate than back-up cameras. Extra-Wide Detecting Angle: Prevent side impacting, convenient for garage parking. Visual Warning: Dash Mounted LED Panel with Numeric Distance and Colored LED. (4) Insert-Type Sensors: Stylish Factory Look. Can be painted. Audible Warning: 3 Distinct Beep Tones Notify You of the Distance to an Object. Interior Alert: Warning beeper included. Saves you Money: Preventing unnecessary accidents save you money due to increased insurance premiums and high repair costs.

With your sensors placed like this, I guessed that the other sensor is located at the oppositeangle of the bumper, the area below the spare tire is not covered. This type of sensors are good for flat bumper, lyke most of the cars got, in that case you have 4 sensors covering abt 250° for bumpers like ours you should add a rear view camera located below the spare tyre. I originally installed 2 of the 4 sensors (first located on the outside edges of the bumper). This morning, I installed the inside 2 sensors. I am not getting any interference from the spare. The digital readout is very accurate. (I get readouts in .5 increments.) I've tested it several times with a tape measure from different angles. I do have to be careful and subtract 6 inches for the spare. A video camera is definitely another option. I just don't like them. They look 'cool'. But if your goal is to avoid backing in to someone or something, they simply are not as effective as a set of sensors. My objection to a video camera setup is that most don't 'warn' you of an obstruction. You have to 'interpret' the picture and make that decision on your own. And in my opinion, you end up staring at the monitor screen too much and too long. I would rather use my mirrors normally while I listen to the speed of the beeps from a sensor 'warning' system. Then I can 'briefly' glance at the LED readout to get a simple distance reading from an obstruction.

That looks great! What was the total cost to get up and running? Did you do it yourself or have it professionally done?
