After installing a CatBack exhaust and a K&N, will reprogramming the PCM/core void the factory warranty?

Not a bit..Just don't tell em you did it..there is no way for them to prove that you did.

Not that I'm a mechanic but do work as a corporate warranty adjuster for another major manufacture, I dont know about the techII but the diagnostic equipment we use notes that the PCM has been modifed as soon as it is hook up to the DLC. Again its not GM...but most manufactures stick to each other..and yes it voids the warranty on any related damage.

I was told by my service manager that their equipment has no way of detecting a modified PCM program..It can only read fault codes and upload (flash the PCM for reprogramming)...I don't know for sure if that's true or not..but I told him mine was reprogrammed and he said the techs would never know the difference by looking at the PCM via their computer diagnostic doohicky...Plus to further the stand..the Hummer dealers across the country are offering performance reprogrammed H3s as a selling option ...so it don't sound like any warranty will be voided if the dealer's are reprogramming as well...Can't believe that double standard would hold water, if they called you out on a reprogrammed PCM you did.

Again, I'm not sure of GM...but the diagnosic printouts I have seen have a PCM version on them and that is one way of knowing. Not to say something would go wrong but I have seen dealers eat some big dollar claims because they tried to push through something they were not suppose to. I have adjusted dealer warranty claims for VW for the last two years and I do know that all the manufactures copy each other when it comes to standards and policies...its a risk but I guess you need to weigh that out against what you really want and the benefits.

thanks everyone for weighing in on this -- it seems to be too much of a "wild card" issue at this time for me to take the chance. I think that I'll just stick to a CatBack exhaust and cold air intake.

I noticed an increase in gas mileage right after I installed the K&N CAI and PCMforless. I get 16.5 mixed driving and 21.5 highway. I wish I could say what gave the most increase but I installed both at the same time.

I don't know if anything similar is available for the H3, but I had a device for me beemer that would first backup the factory pcm then upload the optimized pcm.  Whenever I would take it in to the dealer I would re-upload the old pcm before taking it in.

What about HP gain and throttle response? Notice anything significant?
