or got the proof that their problem was due to an external factor... bad luck, mods, driving etc..

so please fellow forum members lets try to help!!

HMMMMM, must have been bad luck (I call it bad parts) as I have NO mods, I drive conservatively (the extent of my aggression is about 85 mph on the open HWY occassionally), I do not offroad, etc...

Please, don't get me wrong, I am just trying to get enough answer to built a proper computer model using stats.

By no means I am saying that the problem comes from the driver, but if you want to push the case you must have some solid, reliable facts to support your request.

maybe my english wasn't clear enough.

I got ya clear enough JM...and I agree That was my point earlier about people not voting until I got "cracked on" for making a simple observation of others not voting in comparison to those who had posted said issue on here. However, I am not here merely to complain , I enjoy the knowledge I am gaining from others here, I love my little Hummer NO less than I ever did, nor am I sorry that I bought her, nor would I discourage anyone else from buying one! I just like to take facts and "ammo" and tuck them away under my hat for future use when necessary on any subject matter.

I still have no clue why people are argueing that this IS NOT a problem? Is it that you are telling yourselves this so that you'll believe it won't happen to you? Here are some FACTS...it IS a problem, so much so that GM recognized that the valve seats were soft and issed a PI sent to dealers that even included a VIN number range that could be effected. GM also started casting the heads differently to prevent this problem in the future...GM wouldn't just go and redesign /remanufacture heads because they got bored in the shop. So sure, on this forum with a limited grouping of members it doesn't appear to be that common a problem, but look at the VIN # range that GM thinks could have bad heads.....the number is HUGE!! So seriously...why the arguing here? This isn't some crap bieng made up, and you people can keep drinking the cool-aid for as long as you want but when/if it happens to you DON'T come back on here bitchin about it. I have seen it sooo many times before on internet forums, the ones that say it's not a problem...it won't happen to me....when it does your the first to come back on here pissed off like someone just pissed in your cheerios.

Hello All -

I, unfortunately, am adding myself to your list. I just found out today about my Head/Valve problem. Needless to say after reading the various threads regarding this problem, I am extremely disappointed. I love my little H3 and was hoping to have a trouble free automobile....at least for the first six months :-(

For a little background, I purchased my H3 in July and it currently has 6,504 miles on it. The check engine light appeared this past Saturday. The earliest appointment I could get at the dealership was today. I got the call at 2 pm this afternoon and they gave me the bad news. The cylinder head needs to be replaced. The most horrifying thing of all was that they do not have the parts in stock. They advised me that I could come get my truck and bring it back when the parts arrived. I chose to leave it there until they can fix it. I didn't think it would be smart to drive around a truck that has a diagnosed problem to the engine.

Do any of you know what the possible problems would be if I did continue to drive the truck until the parts arrive? I found it odd that a service advisor would advise me to drive a truck that has such a problem. Although, I am not a mechanic so maybe it is not as bad as I am assuming it is?

Jules

I wouldn't drive it while they wait for parts to arrive ....they already diagnosed the problem...let them rush the shipment and enjoy your loaner till it's done. Sounds kind of odd to me that they would want you to take it back. Maybe try a new dealer?

I have to report I have see a couple more of these come in my dealer in the last couple of days. They have a new part number for a complete assembled head instead of buying all the seperate pieces. These are backordered right now but show stock coming in to fill orders. It seems everthing happens in pairs here. We have now had 6 trucks in the last year for this. Steve

I bought mine in Oct. '05 right off the assembly line, it has 27k miles on it, and to this day not one big or small engine problem. It's been running perfectly. It seems like it was just a bad batch of them. I would bet the percentage of H3 owners having or that had the problem is less then 5%. If it was that big of an issue, there would be alot more people on this forum posting about it.

5%???? How you figure that when this poll here is at over 50% I'm not saying it's that high of a number out in the real world but for GM to now package the parts together to make it easier for dealerships to order the needed parts for the repair, makes it pretty damn obvious that they are seeing more than a mere 5% coming in for replacement.
