I found out it only hangs up if you push the phone button on the mirror..which is a pain in the butt to reach because the rear view mirror is so far away.

I will not be using the phone after I use up the remaining 89 minutes..2/3 of them will be wasted with dropped calls or incomplete calls that I either can't receive (just interupts the radio) or the calls I make that never connect..TOTALLY WORTHLESS!!!

I'm debating still if I should even renew OnStar (safe and sound package)..I have yet to use them.

Mark, I have had the same problems and found that the rear view mirror is the only way to hang up a call. pushing and holding the botton by the headlight switch also works sometimes.

Dennis, sounds like verizon doesn't have good cell tower coverage in your area. Do you or anyone you know have verizon cell phones? If they work good with no call drop out there must be something wrong with your antenna.
In my area Verizon is the best, I haven't had one call dropped or missed in the hummer, I use mine over 100 minutes a month. If I go into the mountains near pittsburgh I have noticed where my verizon sucks too, but it's my cell phone and my onstar phone so I know it's just poor tower coverage.

Too bad there isn't a way to make onstar work with sim card carriers, then you could use it with at&t,t-mobile,cingular and a fwe others, I guess when onstar came out verizon won the bid or something.

I called OnStar from the truck and complained (perfect reception)..All they told me that everything looked good from their end and it must be the area I'm in that Verison is reconfiguring all the towers in my area and to expect these problems for an undetermined amout of time, months, even a year or more..I asked if they would credit me back at least 50 minutes of lost calls and they said ..Sorry charlie, no can do....So Screw em!

don't blame ya one bit...I hate all cell phone companies in general.
I wonder if an onstar phone would be the same as any cell phone if you don't have any minutes or activated? What I mean is any cell phone whether it's activated or not can still be used to dial 911 for emergencies, wonder if you can still use onstar that way if you drop the plan and have no minutes?

TIP: Press the dash button twice rapidly and it will hang up.

Maybe it's because I live in the City and I live in Canada that I never had problem with mine. The only ****ty thing is that the minutes are soo dang expensive.

ONSTAR is like an insurance, you probably won't ever use it, but it's there when you absolutely need it.

I'm renewing mine next year just for that reason.

I hear ya khoolhandz!! I have had AAA for over 25 years and last year was the first time I needed them. It was in a snowstorm and had a dead truck! Glad I had it then!

I wish that Onstar was a bit more affordable. Personally $8 - $10 a month seems like a reasonable fee for an "insurance policy" I never use. $15 is too much money for the service and $35 is WAY too much for navigation (I'd just buy a Magellan or something for that money). The handsfree phone is cool but I'd much rather have an integrated bluetooth option so I could use my own carrier. I let the subscription in my last car expire after the complimentary year since I didn't ever use it.

I had an interesting experience with Onstar yesterday when I pulled my new CTS out of the garage and ejected one of the CDs...I went to load a new CD and the loading was interrupted by a message on the screen saying I needed to call Onstar to complete the installation and enable all functions ( I had just talked to them two weeks earlier after buying my car and went through the setup and preferences so I could get my free 30 minutes of talk time). I pushed the Onstar button, talked to the rep, and listened while he tried to sell me 100 minutes of talk time and get a credit card number from me to have on record. He already had all my info from before (but no CC number) so my gut hunch is that the call was a spam message to sell me something and obtain my card number so they can keep billing me when my initial year expires...it's pretty lame when you get "popup windows" while driving in your car!

Yes that how it works they gave me a great deal on cell min after my free 100 ran out which i never used. I gave them my card for the new min but it a trick to get your card that's why they gave me a great deal. So now my card is on file when renewal comes up the automatically do it that what they did to me this year.

If I am not mistaken and correct me if I am wrong...I believe the OnStar manual/instructions say to push the phone button ON and OFF to use the phone feature...(we teachers tend to be a bit anal when it comes to reading the directions)

I thought OnStar was cool when I 1st got it (OK, I am somewhat easily amused sometimes) and I am not paying for it yet either. I am now finding that I have used very few cell mins, and I have a lot left - don't ask me why?? I called OnStar when the head job issue 1st came to light while idling and all I got was, "you have had an engine misfire" (DUH what the H does that mean??) and to proceed to your nearest dealer..period. Not a lot of Hummer dealers in the mountains. Hummer has a roadside assistance service for the duration of the warranty, and I have had AAA at $99/yr for 13 yrs which covers one when in any vehicle...that being said, WHO needs OnStar?? I am thinking this is a (not so) handy dandy little feature to have just to say you have it and it doesn't provide all that much extra for the $$ it costs...so...renew or not to renew??? As for "cell suckage" - Nextel sucks the BIG one royally..gotta love that PTT feature tho..so they have me by the OO's until something better comes out.
