verizon has the PTT feature too now, plus you can add your hummer phone onto it like another line, $9.99 a month. The main thing I like about onstar is that in case of an emergency they will contact help and send them to your EXACT location. Might not seem like much but if your alone on a dark backroad and for example hit ice and lose control smacking a tree, onstar will call you once your airbags deploy then call help...could save your life. To me $20 a month is cheap to pay knowing I have someone looking out for my wife and son when I can't be there.

Yes, I am aware of Verizon's PTT feature...however down here in south FL, his agency had a push to go Verizon PTT for cost factors and they found in experimenting with it that the service/coverage was NOT good..AND they get priority service over civilians due to being in an "emergency respond status." (ie., during last year's hurricane Wilma which was rather destructive...he had Nextel service and I did not - GRRRRR!) Now perhaps Verizon has changed a good deal in the last year or is better in other areas...????

You DO raise a good point with regard to OnStar...these are the things I want to hear to know when the time comes if I feel it's worth keeping.

If I am not mistaken and correct me if I am wrong...I believe the OnStar manual/instructions say to push the phone button ON and OFF to use the phone feature...(we teachers tend to be a bit anal when it comes to reading the directions)

but mrs. wyfe, theres two phone buttons! The one that is handy only goes ON and the one that is OFF is really far away...

(i was the student that always pointed out that one thing the teachers seemed to overlook )

Pardon my ignorance, but what the hell is PTT?

I know SMS, MMS, GPRS, GSM, CDMA, POP3, IMAP...but PTT? Is this old school?

Push To Talk on radios. The Nextel is a two way radio, so it has a PTT button.
