Hey There,

I just bought a 1992 4 door hard top with 6.2 deisel, no CTIS and no A/C. According to the VIN it was it is for sure one of the first 1992's. I dont have nay pics yet, I just installed the AMG heavy duty wrap around front grill guard, bad ass !!!!

I just noticed that when the breaks are applied very heavy the H1 shakes and rattles very bad, is this normal, I did not seem to remember this on my test drive but i may have been pussy footing it since it wasnt my toy yet on the test drive, i just had a mechanic I work with change the input shaft seals and put new pads on the rear brakes, rotors are fine and are not warped

Any IDeas ??? I am so exicted to take my rig out and test it but this vibration has me worried, any help would be great

Thanks

Dan

Is there a groaning sound along with the shuddering/shaking? It could be that the brake pads are relatively new and were not chamfered (edges beveled). This is pretty common when new pads are installed that are not chamfered, before they get broken in.

If not, then I think you may want to get a second opinion regarding the condition of the rotors - sounds symptomatic of warped rotors.

so should I just keep driving and see ? should I brake hard to try and brake in the pads ? there was no vibration before the rear pads were changed and it feels like the rear is where the vibrtn is originating from.

worst case scenario if the rotors are worped will I cause damage to any other axle components while driving on them ? If I need to just drive them break them in I will I just want to make sure I dont hurt anything else while trying to eliminate rotor warp, thanks

If they are new pads, then it sounds like that is your issue... yes - just keep driving and the problem will go away as the pads break in.

Or, you can remove them and bevel the edges of the pads yourself by grinding/sanding them down for immediate fix.

Warpage is also usually due to improper lug nut torque or excessive heat. That is evident when you experience wobbling when slowing down. Better pay immediate attention if your brake rotors are indeed warped to avoid brake pulsations.

You would be onto something if this were a normal vehicle, but the brakes are mounted inboard by the differential. The only thing down by the wheels are the geared hubs and a half shaft goes between the two.
