I don't get all the hating either really....I hang out with a few cops that are good friends and after seeing the crap they deal with all day every day, I fully understand why they are diks. They even told me once that people always say that cops are azzholes and are punks with guns...until they need one of us, then they change their tune.


So because of all the crap I deal with at work I'm allowed to be a dik towards the people I work for too!? I think NOT!!!!! I'd lose my job in an instant if I had that mentality.

i've had a few tickets in my almost 30 years of driving, but i found that what you give is what you get back. i've never really had a leg to stand on any of the times i've been stopped, guilty each time. maybe i'm just lucky, but i've never had a nasty cop pull me over. was even able to talk my way out of a ticket in Wyoming, got a written warning instead. i have too much respect for the profession to bag on all cops, and i'm sure that just like every profession, there are good and bad. hell, there may even be a lawyer or two in the world that ISN'T a complete snake. i think one of the benefits of driving the bus is that it's so big and brick-like, a cop just can't imagine it going over the speed limit.

I was pulled over for doing 98 in a 55 zone about 5 years ago. I ended up stopping and just waiting for the trooper to catch up, I figured it was easier than having him chase me down. Turns out he was about my age, very nice guy. Wrote me down to 74 mph because I didn't make him chase me down. Now with this said, I have zero issues with incidents like this. He was professional, curteous, and did his job. That's what he received back from me.

With this said, you refer to me as "boy" I'm going to take offense to it and believe me, I'll voice it too. No matter how much crap you see in your profession, REGARDLESS of what you do, you don't fricken treat people in a demeaning mannor and then expect them to show you respect. Like you said, What you give is what you get .. and that door swings BOTH ways, at least in my little world.. regardless of that shiny nifty little badge SOME think give them these rights ...

Yeah, there are some guys who are burned out from some of the stuff they deal with, and need to be assigned to something else for a while to take a break.

I also think that sometimes, people use that "first impression" they get from a cop, as a basis for his or her general attitude. But, when a cop first approaches a vehicle, is probably the most danergour time of a traffic stop. So, I wouldn't expect them to come up all casual and wanting to shake hands and talk about the weather. I pretty much expect to hear the usual, let me see your ID & insurance. Then once they see you not some maniac about to flee, they usually seem a little more relaxed, and personable. But, I think too many people still remember the automated first response, and form an opinion.

No they shouldn't call people "boy" etc. I don't know why they would anyway.. I just see it as a potential to make thier job that much harder if the person takes offense to it. I'd rather everything go smoothly, so we can both go on our way once it's over.

I agree completely with what you're saying ... I'm refering to what takes place AFTER the initial approach ... There's where the opportunity presents itself to set an example but few rarely do ... at least around here.

Frankly, I know I am 100% woman and a lady..so when I am called a "girl"...I take it as a compliment as it makes me appear more youthful [;)]

They are some nice ones i was racing a Mustang down Main St.
After taking off and racing him i finally pulled over he said he herd us coming and sat there and waited for us.
he said he called it in as a high speed pursuit to this day i do not know why he did not arrest me.The only thing it could of been i told him i had two aunts that work at the courthouse and a few cops called him on the radio and said i was a good kid.Had to be the ones that i know
But i learn my lesson never wrote me up or nothing.

In driving the turnpike yesterday on my little road trip, I decided to conduct my own little observation of those speeders stopped. Mind you I realize this is only an isolated experience - but I was just curious. TP po po were out in full force unlike I have ever seen before (and I travel the TP regularly on and off holidays). Saw many little Hummers along the way - none stopped...Did see the po po having a field day with one real purty black H2 tho! Luckily for me the hubby and I were driving separate cars and he was a bit ahead of me, so he hit me up on the Nextel every time he saw the po po - to slow her down...Nothing like a free radar detector! [8D]

No you are detecting a little bit of resentment towards disrespectful idiots with a badge to hide behind. I don't think a little bit of curtesy is too much to ask for ..
