Lights for Gobi?

Ghostrider -> Lights for Gobi? (11/4/2006 10:41:42 AM)

I am ready to rig up the 4 front lights on my Gobi stealth.
I have a pair of the PIAA 1500xt on the back and in all honesty, I'm not too impressed with the brightness. I need more up front.
I REALLY wanted to put the big round ones on but the clean look of the low profile lights with the factory mounts is hard to let sit unused.
I am thinking the PIAA P-3000 looks nice with the 3 bulbs in each light. Spot, Flood, and it looks like also a yellow marker.
Has anybody ever seen this light in action or can suggest something different?

PIAA one of the best on the market.

the piaa 1500xt's are a driving light, mounted up high they won't give you much coverage on the ground. I think you need more of a spot instead of a flood type light. I believe the 3000 has a driving, spot, and fog in one housing so it would be better but a dedicated spot light housing is what you are looking for.

something like these

http://www.autoanything.com/lights/65A3267A0A0.aspx

the bottom ones are the long range/offroad lights. 167,000 candlepower EACH compared to 57,000 each for the driving lights. Plus in a spot the beam is more concentrated for longer distances where a drving light acts more like a flood which only illuminates a short distance.

hah..oops i forgot about this thread. thanks for callin me out on that. the forum freaked out on my account and stopped keeping track of which ones I've read and havent read.
Anyway...

I used to have the 4 roof lights on a jeep liberty which were spots but I'm not sure what kind of power they were. I loved them and if I could match something like it, that would do.

I wish I could find a set of the 3000's someplace. I have looked all over the net and I have seen wierd descriptions of it. It is a driver, spot, marker. But I have seen them described with a blue marker??? The driver is yellow and the spot is white. I don't really know if I would ever use the driver but the whole marker thing is what is pulling me in. I think it should fit also...the height is the same as the 1500's but it looks a little bit deeper of a light. I would just get it but at $350 a pair....ouch.

I've decided to go with a PIAA just because it will fit with the rack....its just picking the right ones..hm.

[:D][:D][:D] I was only kiddin ya bro.

Don't feel bad about how much the lights are my brother just bought 4 lights for his jeep, $500 a pair[8|] They were IPS or something like that.

the 3000's have a spot but it is a three light housing meaning the spot is only 1/3 of the actual housing, makes a very small beam and personally I don't think you would be happy with it for a rack light.

what size can you fit, I have books full of off road lighting, I'll try to find something for you.

Here is a good view of how the 1500's fit:
http://www.h3source.com/store/H3-Stealth-Sun.jpg

For room, I've got:
H: 2.7" (to fit rack - 4" to fit garage)
W: 8"
D: 1.75" (from lens to center of mounting screw - if the height is over 2.7")

Wouldnt a smaller beam with equal power make it travel further?

Here are the dimensions of the 1500..

in theory a small beam with ample power will travel farther but will also only put a small spot on the ground, kinda like holding a mini mag light compared to one of those 4 D cell mag lights.

FWIW, I have the 1500 back up lights on the rear and 2 1500xt driving and 2 1500xt crystal ion fogs on the front. I am pleased with the amount of light they put out and have had several comments from others on how bright they are. I guess it boils down to personal preference and how much is enough...[sm=smiley20.gif]

Are the crystal ion's the yellow lights?
Any chance you could get a picture of what your beams look like?

lotus4s -> RE: Lights for Gobi? (11/19/2006 9:31:55 PM)

Yes, the crystal ion's have a slight yellow cast but you don't really see it unless they are shining on something white like the wall of my garage. I'll see what I can do on the pics....

I went with the P-3000's...got 2 already..the other kit was backordered.  Just mounted them tonight and so far I'm impressed!  They fit just fine and the dual beam + marker is very nice.  The 5w amber markers are CRAZY bright though...I'm wondering if it's going to get me in trouble having them up on top.

importkiller -> RE: Lights for Gobi? (12/27/2006 11:49:22 PM)

your not going to be using them on the road are you? If not I don't see how they can get you in trouble

Ghostrider -> RE: Lights for Gobi? (12/27/2006 11:53:09 PM)

Not the spots or floods...but the 5w markers come on with the parking lights and they are much brighter than I was expecting.
