Hey guys, yes its me again and my super problematic H3 :D hehe. I have another question.... it seems that my H3 has real problems shifting from 3rd to 4th gear when cold in the morning.... seems on the colder nights is when it happens. When I get to the highway and pick up speed it will not shift into 4th gear at around 60mph as it usually does..... this happens when temperature gague is still low or arleady at desired place. I have tried speeding up to almost 80mph and it still will not shift, RPMs lifting.... then suddenly after a 15 to 30 seconds (didnt really time it and it prolly differs) it shifts gears and everythign is ok..... this will not happen again till another morning. is it possible when transmission is cold it wont shift to 4th gear at normal speed? my friend at work who studied car mechanics says it is probably normal but I have a feeling he does not have an idea what he is talkin about.
Does anything like this happen to any of you guys ?

I had a Mercedes once for 12 years...The tranny on that one held on to the lower gears longer also when it was cold said so in the OM that it would...Where did you say you are located?? For the record.

Even though the engine may show normal temps, the tranny is still colder, a lot colder than the engine..So I'm not saying it's normal..I never heard of a GM transmission doing this before..But the best thing to do is call and ask your dealer or another dealer in another state even, if this is normal..get a second opinion... From the sounds of it, your dealer is causing you more problems than you already had..so I wouldn't trust much of what they say or do..IMHO (Dilo)

yah you can say that again lol, although they are trying to be helpfull..... seems their service dept is crap.... the GM is involved now and he promises he will make sure all is done properly..... I am located in New Jersey. I never asked them of this before but I will tomorrow as soon as I get into work.... see what they say and then maybe call another dealer.

That does sound weird i can see when its cold out it takes longer to shift but not that long it could be a sensor
i know this will sound stiupid check the fluid and go to a differant dealer yours dont sound like no help i would have no patients with them i would of already drove it threw the show room window tell that them if they don't fix it your going to drive threw the show room. Then when people are around to buy one and start saying in a loud voice when are you going to fix all off my promblems it works trust me on that one.SEE THEM WALK RIGHT OUT . It's a standard right what about when you put in the clutch everthing smooth in all gears even when it does not want to go in to gear

Thanks as usual dilo :) you guys are much help ! the GM already tried to give me BS that many things influence the transmission, and that the service manager will explain to me when i get there. I sent him an email back that if it doesnt happen in other cars it is not normal, and they will fix it or I will go to another dealer. I will probably get very ennoyed if they try to sell me some bs and try not to fix it !!!!!!

IF YOU CAN LEAVE IT OVER NIGHT WHEN IT'S COLD OUT AND LET THEM BE THE FIRST TO START IT AND DRIVE IT BEFORE IT WARMS UP
plus you got to remember these are new they do not know how to work on them and they are still having trouble getting parts for them and depends if this dealer if they are new just jump on the ban wagon because HUMMER became popular we just had only two in my area now we have four but do the two new ones know how to work on them mine was around for a long time they had to replace the door panel because it came in scartched took about 4hours but when i had my windows tinted it took them two seconds to take the panel off tint the window put it on with in fifteen min.

This dealer has been around for years and years actually, there is another one right near my house too that supposedly is the biggest hummer dealer in the northeast ? or the usa? dont remember but they claim one of these things hehe. there is also on in manhattan and brooklyn, so I have about 4 or 5 dealerships withing hour of my travel..... the one by my house is about 10 minutes, but I really did not like the salesmen that work there, they were rude and tried to sell me a lot of BS. So I picked one near my work where the salesmena I dealt with was very nice and informative

Once the sale is done, the sales Dept and their personel are out of the picture (bastards! )..The thing to do is visit the Service Dept at your closest Dealer and see if the Service advisor is just as big a pr!ck as the sales guy was, Maybe a better experience awaits you there.. It is a fact that 90% or better of costumer satisfaction in car ownerships stems to the SERVICE DEPT.

But remember, don't come off like a bad-ass with an attitude, cuz that will turn them into assholes instantly...

No I actually am holding it untill I see what happens with this situation :))))) originally my salesman told me to bring it in for him to fill out and he would give me a free oil change, but now that I have the 2 free years I could care less (although I was going to keep it anyhow if they did not make me happy) I already been thinking about writing some nusty things about their service department but I guess I need to give them another chance..... dont want to be a jerk if they can make it right

All automatic transmissions shift hard cold... Everything internally works hydraulically so it only stands to reason that where it is very cold and the fluid is double thick the transmission will shift double hard... Warming the engine dos little to warm the transmission... Driving is really the only way to do it and you should always go easy on an extra cold automatic... They simply have to warm up to function properly and seeing how fast it can shift cold is only going to damage it...

That said, when I went to test drive my first one at the dealer it would not go in reverse... The service guy that came to get it from the front of the dealership got it into the shop by running it up to about 6000 rpms... Apparently, someone at the factory forgot to fill the tranny fluid or at least that's what the dealer told me... So I guess there are a couple of possibilities...

I have spent a fair amount of time in Colorado and I have never experienced any difficulties with the transmission just because it was cold (not an h3 though). And certainly not that it refused to go in reverse.

But of course it could be normal for the transmission they used for the h3.
