i've been a charcoal guy for years, and i'll keep my current grill until it falls apart. however, i feel the need for the options that a gas grill offers. i need some input on what brand and model i should get. we grill about 3-4 times a week, 52 weeeks a year, so i need something durable, and easy to maintain. i'd like to have one with a rotisserie, but i'm not willing to pay $1500 for a grill. i don't wanna go to lowes or home depot and settle for what they have either. xmas is coming up, so i have some time to build my list. the hummer grill would never stand up to what i'd do to it, so that's not an option.

Ended up with a 500 dollar Perfect Flame grill and have abusead the living h*ll out of it all summer with no noticeable wear on it. Pretty much all stainless steel, 5 burners, liquid propane of course. Optional rotisserie ran me I think 60 bucks but have only used it a few times. It comes with a smoker add-on piece which works great .. try some properly spiced up pork tenderloins and applewood chips sometime .. mmmmm .. I too grill out a lot, not 52 weeks a year but at least 3-4 times/week during the warmer months of the year. Not sure where the wife picked it up but I'm guessing most places carry them, even Lowes and HD. Easy to keep clean, the ceramic griddles or whatever the hell they are called keeps coming back asking for more abuse. I've probably put around 150 lbs of ribs, chicken, and steaks through this thing over the course of the summer and after a good cleaning it's as good as new every time. I know Lowes does carry this model (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=192430-52341-3019L&lpage=none) but I've been too pleased with it so far. Would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable grill!

the problem, as you so eloquently state, is that i watch that ex-porno star on "license to grill", and can't do everything he does on a charcoal grill. i've tried a few things, but i can't control the heat well enough on my grill. i need better control (wife keeps reminding me, so i know it's true). so, i'm looking to add to my outdoor cooking utensils, but i want something that will last a while, and provide the necessary options. i'll never give up charcoal completely, but there are some things that gas will do better, at least that's what i believe.

License to grill!? With an ex-porno star!? Why do I see visions of a cheesy Bond knock off set to even cheesier porno tunes ... all the while food is cooking in the back ground?? I should probably not have another beer .. should I!? lol

Ugh .. I just cringed reading that one ... You simply can't do that to perfectly good meat, regardless of what it is. Ribs cooked any less than 8 hours are just wrong ... SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW COOOOOOOOK ... work with me here my friend! At least start em in the owen, it ain't that bloody hard LOL! Dry rub of your choice or make your own, about 1/2 inch of water in the pan underneith the meat, slooooooooooow cook them bad boys for 6-7 hours ... then move to grill .. low/medium heat until they are done .. throw some foil on the grill and get out that home made bbq sauce and slobber away ... sheeeeeeeesh .. Is this "youngin" going to have to give you a lesson in proper grillin or something!? Tsk tsk tsk ... And they say wisdom comes with age .. LMAO!

Yeah, now apply that thought to your choice cut of meat and not that grocery store crap they pass off as meat ... dry rub or marinade ... sear that meat on high heat to lock in the juices/flavors then finish over low/medium heat for whatever time is needed ... will be a whole lot more tender than doing it flame thrower style :P Prove it?! HA! I tell you what, in the spring after I get my pool put in and actually have a back yard again you're on! Sonny will teach ya a thing or two about grillin' LOL!

In my opinion the best brand is WEBER. I had one for 10 years before I changed for a new WEBER model. and where I live we use it 52 weeks per year. they do one with two different cooking zone, a gas zone that can also be closed and used has an oven AND a charcoal zone for the tasty touch. That's the one I have. it's really perfect last but not least, they have a choice of different colours, so you can match your HUMMER colour . two excellent american products HUMMER+WEBER. the price in France is 425€ so it must be muuuch cheaper in the US. www.weber.com/
