I'd guess about 1700.00 for the t-case, and somewhere around the 900.00 for a selectable rear locker. That just ballpark figures, and they don't include install. I have no idea on the suspension differences.

How can you tell if a luxury package H3 has the adventure package also? Can you tell just by looking at the vehicle?

It be cheaper to trade it in and get what you want. Once they start replacing things the truck will never be the same.

Actually, that's not always the case. My dealership commonly changes out the 265's for 285's on the base H3's for people who want them.. at least accourding to one of the sales people. The fastest way to tell is to look at the transfer case selection panel. You should see a button that has a picture of the axles etc, with the rear axle having an X in the center... for the locking rear diff. I'll try to post a pic that shows it if I can. The last time I tried to post a pic it wouldnt let me for some reason (even though I have poste dmany in the past) Thumbnail Image

The option was probably in that range anyway... but even without the added cost of install, I would bet money that it would still cost more to add it on. The T-case alone would easly go for 1400.00+ and probably cloer to the 1700 I posted earlier.. and if you wanted it all like factory, you would have to include the new buttons/panel, .. the full works would end up costing you A LOT more than what it would have been to just buy it that way. No new diff is needed, but a locker would have to be installed in the old one. Plus the actuator & wires. The 4:1 low range t-case, the torsion bars & rear springs if there is a great difference (wouldn't have to have them) and the shocks since I think they are matched to the suspension. 285's would complete it too, but again, you don't "have" to have them.. or could even elect to go bigger. However, you would be better off just getting one already done, or getting the t-case, installing it yourself, and find another aftermarket rear locker that is selectable. At least that way you would have the important stuff, and would not be limited to only using the rear locker in low, and under 20 mph. Which would be better in my humble opinion. The bonus to getting it from the start is it's a little cheaper that rounding everything up yourself, for the most part, and you have the added plus that it is all covered under the vehicles warranty. If you have it done by the dealer, it will be covered, but at a greater expense. You already paid for the t-case you have now, so in a sense, you will have bought two.. plus the install prices which will sting more than a bit. If I were you, I'd just keep what I have for now, or swap into an adventure.

If you want to make it more adventurous/off-road-ish, why don't you buy some Mickey Thompson tires, and get some better shocks put on? HummerMike has the most kick-ass MT's I have ever seen, and up close they REALLY make the truck look better. But the important thing is he said it's like Night and Day when it comes to the improvements they make off-roading. I liked them so much I'm defnintely getting a set as soon as it's time. He said the road noise is minimul and it would be alot cheaper to do. I'm not sure if they make aftermarket shocks yet, but you may want to check Bilstien or Eddlebrock's web site (I don't think I spelled those right) Eddlebrock has the IAS off-road shocks, but I have heard from people that they have the reputation of blowing gaskets when put under too much pressure. Last time I checked, you could get some really good Bilstien shocks for about $80 a pop, and if you shop around, you can find the MT tires for a decent price. All together with installation, I would figure you could probably get all that done with labor for around $1500. I plan on doing that next summer to my rig. If you are technical savy, you can probably even do the shocks yourself!.
