I may be old school but for the life of me I can't figure out why chrome has turned to bling. I remember being a kid and having chrome mags, chrome exhaust, chrome valve covers and basically an assortment of chrome accessories. Think old school V-8, MOPAR, Corvettes, Camaros, Jeeps, HOT RODS, It was cool and still is cool. On the other hand, modern times (especially Hummers) has unfortunately bought us the term "Bling". I really can't stand this word and in some way feel that it has ruined it for those who enjoy haveing a little chrome on their whip. BLING sounds like it was made up by a rapper wannabe from Compton, Calafornia with his pants half way down his butt, a gold tooth and a half dozen fake gold necklaces. It says look at me look at me look at me...I am a wannabe! The amazing thing is that many folks apparently like this approach and have now started to use the word to describe chrome. What a shame!

I'm with SD!! and I don't fancy chrome or bling in general, but there are some very very good looking 'blinged' out rigs (*cough* HummBob, Mike *cough*). I agree with you about bling sounding kinda funny... here is my avatar from my SVT forum :) edit: figured while I'm at it I'd set it as my avatar on here too since its so fitting of me

When he posted the color video clip of her, it looked to me like she was saying "Back up bitch," too. I kept waiting for that shirt to slip up a bit and for those pants to fall, but alas, it never happened and I'm left wondering...

Now you KNOW I can't just let this one slide without commenting! I'm going to take out my BLING statement from my signature, because you are right about everything, in my opinion It WAS really made from rappers, as far as I know from my friends. I think we use it as an easier adapted way to say "Our automobile has many visual and audio modifications that make it more appealing and attractive to other automobile enthusiasts that have equal tastes." Now you wouldn't want to go around saying all that would you The chrome is just all a matter of personal preference for alot of us. Personally (as I have said before) I was going to go the simple route, a green H3 with blacked-out everything, matching grille, and NO chrome. My wife wanted me to get some little chrome things here and there, the biggest thing being the chrome hood cover with the handles. I put on a couple of things, and realized I really liked the look, despite me thiking it would look too much like a pimp car. I started looking for more and more stuff, not to make it gaudy but more to make it look original. Now, I'm pretty much done with the entire process (with the exception of my chrome center caps). I honestly don't care if somebody doesn't like mine personally. I mean, everybody has a right to their own opinion, and I'm not one of those people (as I don't think most are here) that say "oh well if you don't like my H3 then screw you." I did it because I like the way it looks, as does my wife, and if others really like it, I honestly find it VERY flattering and am humble about it, but people who don't care for it I definitely respect because it's their personal opinions and that is fine. I love the flat blacked-out look AND the "bling'd" look, so for me it's cool So, it's just one of those things that as time progresses, the words you use to characterize something changes, and instead of saying "Yeah I have alot of chrome on my car that's really shiney and everybody loves to look at it" you say "I have lots of Bling." Most people know what it means, and it sure is easier to say then explaining it to everybody, since our culture has seem to quickly adopt the word. Maybe I'll keep it And NO I'm not being defensive. I'm just shedding some light on the subject (hell even Dennis has "bling" and he's like 92........)

That picture is the best! As far as the "bling" thing. I am hopeful that it fad passes. It started as Bling Bling and then they lost the first (or second) bling. Maybe the remaining one will go away too. I don't think the Hummer group made it any bigger than it already was. So I am going to go out and shine my Bling now.

i think you raise a good point. chrome didn't start with rapping, it started with James Dean and the thelma & louise era cars, maybe earlier.
