On a Hummer H1 Year 2000 the VIN number is on the door jamb and at the front of the dash but does anyone know if the VIN number is actually printed on the chassis - if so where? Thanks, David

There is a secondary VIN on the right front outboard frame rail. Hidden VINs are kept secret to prevent an absolute identity change of the vehicle in question. You should have "flower" rivets securing the Public VIN on the dash too. AMG appears to keep horrible production records, my 2003 VIN does not exist per AMG. I had it authenticated before I purchased it: it really exists. Not sure if AMG has updated their records publically.

The reason for asking is that there appears to be another number stamped under the main VIN number - it is fixed to the dash with the flowery rivets as standard - I need to know the other locations in order that the VIN can be verified. Thanks and regards, David

the only place to get the rivets is a manufacture.... you cannot buy these rivets anywhere, for good reason. They may be available on the black market, but they hold a very hefty fine if caught - federal prison.... If it has the correct rivets through the vin plate, then you are fine...... you can check the front fram rail (as mentioned), but its also marked in other locations as well....

You can have the vehicle authenticated by a police agency. They have specialists that you can schedule an appointment. You take it to them, they boot you out of the room and they come back with opinion. You can be assured if there is much doubt about the true VIN or signs of tampering, they will be keeping the car pending further investigation. I have seen Public VIN plates reapplied with glue, having used the old flower rivets glued on in place. If the public is secured properly, you should be OK...the flower rivets are very difficult to come by. AMG appears to run a pretty sloppy operation on general vehicle identification. The H1 is pretty sloppy in the application of the Federal Sticker too. If you have this much doubt, I would schedule an appointment with your local auto theft task force.

Phazer42, I cannot locate it on the front rail arm - what are the other locations other than the door jam? Thanks and regards, David
