I just saw an article about the Jeep Wrangler EV, which has a 268 HP electric motor, Li-ion batteries, and an efficient engine with a generator to recharge the batteries and power the motor when the batteries are depleted. The engine is NOT directly connected to the drive system. All power is provided by the motor. This is a similar setup to the Chevy Volt coming out in 2010. What''s interesting is the electric version out accelerates the standard gas one from 0-60 mph. It seems like an electric motor would be great for rock crawling. You''''d have full torque available from a dead stop, and could cut power immediately. Downhill sections would use regenerative braking, charging the batteries back up. It would be quiet so you could hear the spotter. You would also have high voltage power source available for a winch, and you could even have a high power A/C inverter so you''''d have a mobile high power 120/240 volt generator. The improvement in mileage would undoubtably help Hummer turn sales around. Of course, it would be environmentally friendly, which a lot of people think offroaders are not concerned about, but we really are. I think Hummer should seriously consider this. Michael
