has anybody put a flowmaster muffler on the 3.7 motor. i have the magnaflow cat back right now and im not impressed with the sound. it looks good, but thats it. i want a rumble. thinking of maybe a 50series flow in place of the resonator and have dual outlets out the back. how do you think that might sound? thanks in advance, tom

I''ve been thinking of using a camero dual outlet muffler in place of the stocker. Then add some nice SS tips

You will not get a rumble out of an inline motor, maybe a whuuuuurrrrrr.

V8s thump, V6s growl, inlines .... buzz

I am not sure.  One of these days somebody has to do a side by side comparison of a few brands and make some quality sound clips.

I enjoy my MagnaFlows, but your observation is well taken.

Hey what about deleting the muffler, and putting on dual tips. I did this on a 4 banger and it sounded damn good.

Ok I cut my muf off and built a dual exhaust. Painted the pipes black with ss tips. Looks damn godd and the sound is slightly louder than stock. Sounds pretty good at idle and even better when you get on it.I took a pi of the tailpipe system off the truck. Don''t know how to post a pic. any help on that?

I''ve never been a fan of ricer mods. You know, intake and exhaust. You spend a fortune for virtually no performance gain that can be measured at the rear wheel. Plus it''s louder. What you need is an engine transplant!

The dual tips I put on can easily be removed and the stock muffler reinstalled for warrenty work. As far as the "ricer mods", changing or modifying your intake/exhaust is way older than the ricer movement. Since  it doesn''t add much in the way of performance or sound, why spend the $500-600 to buy the aftermarket exhuast. All you really get is a little deaper exhaust note and a few ponies. I''m sure what i did gives me a few more HP and the deaper tone with out the high cost. With the tips and pipe it cost around $55 and my time to fab it up and weld. And it is a true working dual outlet.

Is the stock exhaust system SS or mild steel?

Mild. I used generic parts store pipes with ss tips and just used high temp black paint on the rest.

Yeah, Hotrod, post some pics.  Load your pics onto www.photobucket.com or whomever you like, then you can upload them here.

Since the piping is mild, welding them should be easy (and it helps that I have a welder).  Did you use some kind of flange since you said it could be put back to stock?  Or did you just use some clamps?  Pipe diameter?  Thx!
