My 4wd drive hasn''t worked for a couple weeks but I haven''t needed it, but we just got a lot of rain at the ranch and I need 4wd.  I checked all the fuses and its plugged in but its not engaging.  A while back I got stuck pretty bad and heard a loud pop and it hasn''t worked since.  Also since then its constantly says T/C locked in H/L H & L actually now that I think of it, it doesn''t even work in H just H/L or L which that is when the T/C is locked.

What do you guys suggest?  Any ideas?

Thanks

sounds like you broke a half-shaft

it won''t work because when the t-case is in H, the power goes to the path of least resistance.... which means th one with the broken shaft.... when you put it in HL or L it locks the output so the front and rear get the same power.....

sounds like you need a new halfshaft....

Thanks for the reply.

These Hummers are spanish to me, does a half shaft require a t-case rebuild?  It still delivers good power to the rear wheels but the front gets nothing.  So by locking the t/c it will allow it to work?

You are exactly correct. My driver front half shaft is snapped in two near the brake.

Thanks!

and your TC should be fine unless you did something else to it.

I ordered all the parts to fix it yesterday.  Now I need to add ball joints to the list.  I blew out an upper ball joint today.

I hope you aren''t driving it on pavement while the truck is in lock..... that will evenually require a t/c rebuild.....

the 93 Hummer h1''s had lite duty halfshafts in them so you are mosy likely going to be getting the newer heavy duty one. the halfshafts were built in as the weak link to break when a tire is spinning and hard brake pressure is applied. the tire weighs over 100 lbs and the brakes are inboard, so when you apply the brakes the drive line stops and the tire tries to keep spinning and snap goes the halfshaft.
  just so preventive advise.
