I am thinking about getting an H3 to save some on gas, but still be able to offroad.  What are you guys getting real world MPG in your 5 cyl and Alpha''s.  We do a lot of open highway driving and I do 85-90 so I know I can get my foot out of it and save some cash.

But if I were to drive the same, would there be a significant savings, enough at least to give up my 2 and buy a 3?  Will I be right back to the same place as the H2 if I level the front and put larger tires on it? (Isn''t that why the front is lower from factory?  better aerodynamics = better mpg)

Right now I have an 03 that I get 11.5 -12.5 from OC to Phoenix according to the trip computer which costs about $150 each way.  Thanks.

One thing you need to remember is this; the H3 has a I-5, and not a v8 like the H2''s. As a result, the I-5 sometimes has to work a bit more (read more rpms) in order to get up to the desired speed. This may result in little, to no difference in gas mileage in this particular area (acceleration).

Now, in town you''re probably not going to see any huge difference between the two vehicles in terms of gas mileage. Probably only a couple mpg difference between the two in town. It''s on the open highway where the difference will be noteworthy.

I guess the biggest question is this; do you really want to give up your H2 for an H3 ? In the end, you''re the only one who can answer this.

I''ll tell you right now, I''ve seen some H2''s rolling around town lately, and I must admit, they''re pretty sharp. I don''t think if I had one I would give it up simply for gas mileage sake. Just my 2 cents.

Ok I just bought an H3. I didn''t know about the Alpha, anyway as far as mileage, around town I get about 14, highway w/air on, 16.25.
I like the smaller package. A few guys at work have the h2 and they like them as well. I don''t really plan to do ant wheeling.

I own an H3 in Europe where gas prices are a bit more expensive, about 4x US prices, and I also travel the open highway a lot around 80-90mph. Germany - Czech - Poland - Serbia etc.
For comfort purposes ive been thinking opposite, to upgrade to a H2. Since the engine is smaller on the H3, i cant imagine the highway millage for the H2 to be that different at higher speeds. Is it???????????
The H3 is fine for comfort if your in the front seats, but im 6''2'''', the back seat is imposable for me but my dog doesn''t seem to mind.

This thread is out dated, from 7/5/08, the week before US gas prices hit their all time high, and during the mindless paranoia of the sheep that actually thought there was some kind of oil/energy crisis going on.

Just filled up at $1.97 USD.  Hardly worth changing vehicles over.  I expect to be seeing gas at $1.75/gal soon.

$1.97/US Gal. thats a good price, I filled up yesterday at $0.87/liter which is a lot better then the $1.40/liter we were paying, but your $1.97 works out to $0.52/liter.
